Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose a PTZ over multiple fixed cameras?
A PTZ replaces three or four fixed cameras for the same site coverage and adds the ability to investigate a scene live — zoom in on a face, follow a vehicle as it leaves, talk down to a courier. For a single front-of-house or shopfront install, a Value PTZ often costs less than the equivalent multi-camera fixed setup. For wide static perimeter coverage where you need every angle recorded simultaneously, fixed cameras are still the right answer.
Will it run on my existing Hikvision NVR's PoE port?
Yes. The camera uses standard PoE (IEEE 802.3af), the same PoE class delivered by every Hikvision PoE NVR's built-in port. No injector, no Hi-PoE, no special supply — single Cat 6 cable from the NVR port to the camera.
Is 20 m IR enough for my driveway / shopfront?
For typical Australian suburban driveways (10-15 m), retail shopfronts, reception areas, undercover carports and side-gate zones, 20 m IR is sufficient. For longer driveways or larger carparks where you need night identification beyond 20 m, step up to the 3-inch DS-2DE3A404IWG-E/W with 50 m IR, or move up to the Ultra Series with 300 m IR.
Can I use the two-way audio with my phone?
Yes. Open the live view in Hik-Connect on your phone, tap the audio button, and you can hear and speak directly through the camera's built-in mic + speaker — talk to a courier, warn off an intruder, or check what's happening at the gate.
Can I install this within 2 km of the coast?
Honestly — no, not directly exposed. This camera does not have anti-corrosion housing (there's no -Y variant in this family). For coastal Australian installs (Sydney CBD, Wollongong, Newcastle, Gold Coast, Perth, etc.) within 2 km of saltwater, either choose a NEMA 4X-rated camera (look for the "-Y" suffix on Hikvision turrets) or mount this PTZ under genuine cover (a deep eave, undercover carport, sheltered porch) so it doesn't see direct salt-spray exposure.
Why is the pan range 355°, not full 360°?
The 2-inch Value Series uses a slip-ring design with a 5° dead-zone for the cabling. For ceiling, eave and wall mounts overlooking a single scene, this is irrelevant — you don't need the 5° anyway. For corner mounts where you want a full continuous sweep, plan the orientation so the dead-zone faces away from the scene of interest (e.g. toward the wall behind the camera).
Does it support face recognition or auto-tracking?
No — those are Pro / DeepinView / Ultra Series features. This camera covers human and vehicle classification and perimeter detection only. For facial recognition against a watchlist, choose a Hikvision DeepinView model. For automatic PTZ target tracking, step up to the Ultra Series PTZ range.
Is this NDAA Section 889 compliant?
No. Hikvision is not NDAA Section 889 compliant. For NDAA-required projects (typically US federally-funded), we stock alternative brands — contact our team.
