Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to upgrade my cabling to use 2.5G speeds?
No. The TL-SG108-M2 supports 2.5 Gbps over existing Cat5e cabling up to 100 metres, so you can upgrade your switch speed without rewiring. Cat6 or Cat6a cabling will also work and may provide better performance in electrically noisy environments.
Is the TL-SG108-M2 backward compatible with my existing Gigabit devices?
Yes. Each port auto-negotiates at 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, or 2.5 Gbps, so you can mix standard Gigabit devices with 2.5G devices on the same switch without any configuration.
Does the TL-SG108-M2 support PoE?
No. The TL-SG108-M2 does not support Power over Ethernet. If you need PoE for Wi-Fi 6 access points or IP cameras, consider a TP-Link PoE switch such as the TL-SG2210MP or TL-SG3210XHP-M2 which combines 2.5G ports with PoE+.
Can the TL-SG108-M2 be wall-mounted?
Yes. The metal chassis includes wall-mount support, making it easy to install in a comms room, behind a TV, or on any flat surface for a tidy, space-saving setup.
Does it require any software or configuration?
No. The TL-SG108-M2 is a plug-and-play unmanaged switch — simply connect your devices and it works immediately. There is no web interface, app, or driver required.
