How the intercom builder works
- System — choose UniFi Protect Doorbell or UniFi Access Intercom. This sets the door devices and the controller you need.
- Door station — a Protect doorbell (Doorbell Lite, G4, G4 Pro or G6 Entry) or an Access reader / 2-way intercom, or an all-in-one Access starter kit.
- Indoor viewing — add a UniFi Access Intercom Viewer to answer and unlock from inside, or a ViewPort to see your doorbell on a TV. Optional — you can also answer from the UniFi app.
- Accessories & extras — NFC access cards, doorbell covers and extra door hubs.
- Controller & network — the builder auto-adds the right UniFi Protect console (for doorbells) or UniFi Access door hub (for readers), plus a correctly sized UniFi PoE switch.

What's the difference between a UniFi Protect doorbell and a UniFi Access intercom?
A UniFi Protect doorbell (G4, G6 Entry, Doorbell Lite) is a video doorbell — you see and speak to visitors and it records to a UniFi OS console with no monthly fees. UniFi Access adds proper door-entry control: NFC / Bluetooth / PIN unlock, door locks and a 2-way intercom, managed by a UniFi Access door hub. The G6 Entry bridges both.
Do I need a UniFi console or recorder?
Yes. UniFi Protect doorbells record to a UniFi OS Console (UNVR Instant, Dream Machine SE) or a UNVR Pro rack NVR — this builder auto-adds one and a PoE switch if needed. UniFi Access door hubs also run on a UniFi OS Console, so add one if your site doesn't already have a UniFi console.
How do I answer the door from inside?
Add a UniFi Access Intercom Viewer — a 5" touch display that lets you see, talk to and unlock for visitors from inside, available as a single unit or 3-pack. On Protect you can also add a ViewPort to view the live doorbell feed on any TV, or simply answer from the UniFi mobile app.
