Description
TP-Link Deco X20 3-Pack – AX1800 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi 6 System
The TP-Link Deco X20 3-Pack is a Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) mesh system that blankets your entire home in fast, seamless wireless coverage. Three Deco X20 units work together to deliver up to 530 square metres of combined coverage, automatically routing your devices to the strongest signal as you move from room to room. With AX1800 dual band speeds, OFDMA, MU-MIMO, WPA3 security, and TP-Link HomeCare™ built in, it’s a significant upgrade over traditional routers and older mesh systems for Australian homes with multiple users and dozens of connected devices.
Key Features
-
Wi-Fi 6 (AX1800): 1201Mbps on 5GHz and 574Mbps on 2.4GHz for a combined 1800Mbps — faster and more efficient than Wi-Fi 5 (AC) systems.
-
Up to 530sqm Coverage: Three units provide whole-home mesh coverage suitable for large Australian homes, multi-storey residences, and open-plan layouts.
-
OFDMA Technology: Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access allows simultaneous data transmission to multiple devices, quadrupling network capacity compared to Wi-Fi 5.
-
MU-MIMO: Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output enables multiple devices to receive data simultaneously rather than sequentially, reducing wait times under load.
-
Seamless Roaming (802.11k/v/r): Devices automatically connect to the nearest Deco unit as you move around your home without dropping the connection or requiring manual switching.
-
WPA3 Security: The latest Wi-Fi security standard provides stronger encryption and protection against brute-force attacks compared to WPA2.
-
TP-Link HomeCare™: Built-in suite including Parental Controls, Antivirus (powered by Trend Micro), and QoS for a safer, more controlled home network.
-
2 × Gigabit Ethernet Ports per Unit: Each Deco X20 has two 10/100/1000Mbps ports for wired device connections or wired backhaul between units.
-
Router & Access Point Modes: Operates as a standalone router or as an access point behind an existing router or modem.
-
IPv4 & IPv6 Support: Future-ready dual-stack IP protocol support.
-
Deco App Setup: Step-by-step guided setup via the free Deco app on iOS or Android — no web interface required.
-
Ultra-Low Latency: Wi-Fi 6 improvements reduce latency for more responsive gaming, video calls, and real-time applications.
Ideal Use Cases
- Large Australian homes (200–530sqm) where a single router cannot provide reliable coverage throughout.
- Multi-storey residences with thick walls, concrete floors, or complex layouts that block Wi-Fi signals.
- Households with 20+ connected devices including smartphones, smart TVs, IoT devices, and laptops.
- Home offices requiring reliable, low-latency Wi-Fi for video conferencing and large file transfers.
- Families needing parental controls and content filtering via HomeCare™ without a separate subscription service.
- Replacing an ageing router and range extender setup with a unified, seamless mesh network.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Deco X20 and a standard Wi-Fi router?
A standard router broadcasts from a single point, leaving dead zones in larger homes. The Deco X20 3-Pack uses three units working together as a mesh network, providing seamless coverage across up to 530sqm with automatic handoff between units as you move around your home.
Can I add more Deco units to expand coverage further?
Yes. Additional Deco X20 units (or other compatible Deco models) can be added to the mesh network via the Deco app to extend coverage beyond 530sqm.
Does the Deco X20 work with my existing NBN modem?
Yes. In Router mode, connect the primary Deco X20 to your NBN modem or gateway via Ethernet. It supports Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, L2TP, and PPTP WAN types, covering all common Australian NBN connection types.
What is TP-Link HomeCare™ and does it cost extra?
HomeCare™ is TP-Link’s built-in security and management suite, including Parental Controls, Antivirus powered by Trend Micro, and QoS. It is included with the Deco X20 at no additional subscription cost.
Does Wi-Fi 6 require Wi-Fi 6 devices to work?
No. The Deco X20 is backward compatible with all Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n), and older devices. Wi-Fi 6 features such as OFDMA and improved efficiency are available to Wi-Fi 6 capable devices, while older devices connect normally at their supported speeds.
Can I use the Deco X20 in Access Point mode behind my existing router?
Yes. In Access Point mode, the Deco X20 connects to your existing router via Ethernet and provides mesh Wi-Fi coverage without replacing your current router’s routing and DHCP functions.
Is wired backhaul supported between Deco units?
Yes. Each Deco X20 has two Gigabit Ethernet ports. You can connect units via Ethernet cable for wired backhaul, which provides faster and more reliable inter-unit communication than wireless backhaul — recommended for the best performance in larger deployments.
