What's the difference between the 2.8 mm and 4 mm lens?The 2.8 mm is a wider view — 101° horizontal FOV. The 4 mm gives you narrower reach — 87° horizontal FOV — but each pixel covers less scene, so detail at 10-25 m is better. Same sensor, same IR range, same AcuSense AI on both.
Why is Black only offered in 2.8 mm?Hikvision's supply of the black-finish version is limited to the 2.8 mm SKU (DS-2CD2T66G2H-4I-BLK). If you need a 4 mm in black, contact us — we sometimes have alternative black-finish Hikvision bullets in the same 6 MP range that might suit.

An SD card wears out by program/erase (P/E) cycles, and a camera recording continuously burns through them fast. Axis surveillance cards use TLC and QLC NAND with a deliberately low write amplification factor, so far fewer P/E cycles are consumed for the same amount of recorded video. Every CCTV recorder has a hard drive that's writing continuously. When the mains flicks off mid-write — a lightning strike, a substation dip, someone tripping the RCD — the HDD doesn't get to flush its cache before the power dies. The result is corrupted footage, index errors, or in the worst case a bricked RAID array. What's the difference between VA and Watts?VA (volt-amps) is the apparent power rating; Watts is the real power the UPS can deliver. For CCTV/NVR loads, the wattage number is what actually matters — that's what you compare against the actual draw of your equipment. VA is what UPS marketing leads with because it's a bigger number.
How long will the UPS run my NVR for?Depends on load. A typical 8-camera Hikvision NVR draws ~120-180 W. At half load, the 1000 VA runs 15-25 min, the 2000 VA runs 25-40 min, and the 600 VA runs 5-10 min. Enough for a clean shutdown; not enough to keep recording through a multi-hour outage. For that, you want a larger UPS or a solar / genset solution.
Can it auto-shutdown my NVR?Yes — connect the USB cable from the UPS to the NVR's USB port and enable UPS shutdown in the NVR settings. When the battery drops to the safe threshold, the UPS signals the NVR to save-and-shutdown. Works with most Hikvision NVRs; check the NVR's user manual for the exact menu path.

PoE Switch (Optional)
Single Ethernet cable powers and connects the indoor station via any PoE 802.3af port. If you don't have a PoE switch yet, a small unmanaged PoE switch is the cheapest way to power the whole intercom system. View network switches →
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it need a separate power supply if I use PoE?No. A single Cat 5e/6 Ethernet run from a PoE 802.3af switch carries both data and power. The 12 VDC input is only needed if you're powering the monitor over Wi-Fi (no Ethernet) or in a legacy install.
Can I view Hikvision IP cameras from the indoor station?Yes. Tap into any Hikvision IP camera on your network — during a call, or standby. Useful for checking the driveway camera before unlocking the front door, or the loading dock from the reception monitor.
What are the benefits of the flush-mount design?The flush bracket recesses the monitor into the wall cavity so the screen sits nearly flush with the plaster — no protruding chassis. Better aesthetics for luxury villas, boutique reception, apartment lobbies. Also more resistant to knocks and tampering than a surface mount.
Can I answer the intercom from my phone if I'm not home?Yes — the indoor station links to Hik-Connect on Android and iOS. Incoming door calls forward to your phone, you can talk to the visitor from anywhere and unlock the door remotely. Works over Wi-Fi or mobile data.
How many door stations can I connect?The Hikvision IP intercom system supports up to 8 door stations per indoor station and up to 4,000 indoor stations per project — from a single-villa install to a large apartment complex. Master stations can be added for a concierge / building manager.
What door strikes and locks does it work with?The 2 relay outputs are dry-contact and configurable — compatible with any standard electric strike, magnetic lock or gate motor that accepts a dry-contact input. Some door stations also have their own relay outputs — you can wire the strike from the door station side instead if it's closer to the door.
