Which App Do I Need? CCTV Guru’s A–Z Customer App Guide

  • 13 min reading time

Find the right camera, alarm, intercom, smart-home or network app across 21 app-enabled brands, with features, subscriptions and model requirements explained.

The correct app depends on the product family and the system it connects to, not just the brand on the box. A Hikvision recorder, a Bosch alarm and a TP-Link Tapo camera use different services. Even one brand can have several unrelated apps.

This A–Z guide explains the main customer app, what you can do with it, and what needs checking before purchase or setup. Only brands with an applicable app for their listed product families are included.

Reviewed 21 October 2026. This guide covers 21 brands with applicable apps for product families in CCTV Guru’s active online catalogue. UNV and Uniview are grouped together; Uniarch is listed separately. Brands without an applicable app for their listed products are excluded. Features and app names can change with model, firmware, phone operating system and country.

App downloads and shopping links: Use the links below to open the official Apple App Store or Google Play listing. Store availability, names and publishers can change. Choose the app for your exact device and installed system before signing in. Brand collection links let you browse the range; they do not mean every item uses every app listed. Where a current Google Play listing could not be verified, the official manufacturer download directory is labelled separately.

Before downloading an app

  1. Find the exact model on your invoice or device label, plus the recorder/panel model if the item connects to one.
  2. Follow the device’s Australian quick-start guide or the installer’s handover instructions. Use the manufacturer’s official download route and check the app publisher; icons and similar names are not proof of compatibility.
  3. Ask which account owns the system, whether you are being invited as a user, and which services or storage require payment.
  4. For a second-hand or previously installed system, arrange an authorised ownership transfer. Do not factory-reset working equipment simply because the app says it is already bound.

Most video apps need a configured system. Recording requires suitable enabled storage; talk needs audio-capable equipment; door release needs a correctly wired and configured lock; notifications depend on event settings and phone permissions. A phone app does not add those hardware features.

Dahua

DMSS

Control supported smart-home devices, view sensor data and build automations. Eve cameras use the Apple Home/HomeKit Secure Video arrangement.

Synology

DS cam for Surveillance Station; NAS apps depend on the task

Configure a compatible router locally or use authorised RMS services for remote management.

VIGI: compatible business CCTV viewing/recording access. Tapo: home cameras/smart devices. Omada: compatible business networks. Deco: Deco mesh Wi-Fi. Tether: supported routers/extenders. tpMiFi: supported mobile hotspots.

Uniarch

ArchLive (formerly Uniarch), subject to the device’s regional guide

UniEase (formerly UNV-Link), EZView UNV, or the app specified for the exact system

Verkada

Verkada Command

VIVOTEK

iViewer for supported NVR/VAST systems; VORTEX for provisioned cloud systems

View supported video and recordings, with PTZ/audio/events depending on the device and platform.

Check first: VIVOCloud is listed as a legacy product. VORTEX/Connect needs supported hardware or integration and the applicable service; do not assume every older camera becomes a native cloud camera.

Wi-Tek

Local web interface or Wi-Tek Cloud app on explicitly cloud-capable hardware

Configure supported wireless links or network equipment; use your recorder’s app to watch CCTV across the link.

Check first: Wiking unmanaged switches, brackets and enclosures do not have app management. Cloud support must be checked against the exact bridge hardware revision.

Common app questions

Can I watch different camera brands in one app?

Sometimes through a compatible recorder or VMS, but not by assuming every brand’s cloud account is interchangeable. Confirm live video, playback, events, audio and remote access separately. A camera’s ONVIF support does not automatically provide every manufacturer-specific feature in another app.

Will I get a photo on my phone’s lock screen?

That depends on the camera/recorder, app version, phone settings and any required service plan. An event picture inside an app is different from an image on the lock screen. See our camera photo-notification guide.

Does a free app mean everything is free?

No. An app may be free to download while cloud recording, intercom calling, monitoring, extra camera licences or professional maintenance are paid separately. Ask which functions work without a subscription and what happens if it expires.

Can my installer keep access?

Use the platform’s supported invitation or maintenance-permission process and agree the scope. Keep control of your own account and review access when the service ends. Self-monitoring phone alerts are not the same as a monitored alarm service.

Ask CCTV Guru to confirm the app for your exact model. Send the model and what you want to do—not passwords or private activation codes. The CCTV Guru shopping app helps with store shopping/account tasks; it does not replace the manufacturer’s device-control app.
