Practical takeaway: if you want footage that police can use to identify an unknown intruder, you need them within ~6-7 m of the camera. Beyond that, footage is useful for recognising known faces but not for identifying strangers.

What does the "H" in G2H mean?The H suffix denotes Hikvision's DarkFighter-enhanced variant of the standard G2 model — larger 1/1.8" sensor, F1.0 aperture and improved image processor. It gets ~2.5× more light than a standard AcuSense camera at the same price tier. Worth the small premium for any night-time use case.
Why is Black only offered in 2.8 mm?Hikvision's supply of the black-finish version is limited to the 2.8 mm SKU (DS-2CD2366G2H-IU-BLK). If you need a 4 mm in black, contact us — we sometimes have alternative black-finish Hikvision turrets in the same 6 MP range that might suit.
Does it need a special PoE switch?No — PoE 802.3af Class 3 (max ~6 W). Runs on any standard Hikvision NVR PoE port or generic 802.3af PoE switch. Also accepts 12 VDC for legacy or off-grid installs.
Is the built-in microphone always recording?Yes, when audio recording is enabled on the NVR. You can also configure the microphone to trigger an alarm on audio exception (sudden loud noise, breaking glass) even when video motion doesn't fire. Note: recording audio at some AU workplaces requires signage and staff notification — check your obligations.
Does AcuSense really cut false alarms?Yes — typical reduction is 80-90% vs a motion-only camera. The camera classifies the target as human, vehicle or "other" before firing an alarm. Rain, foliage, insects, animals and passing headlights get filtered out.
