Does the UNVR Instant require a UniFi Protect subscription?
No. UniFi Protect runs fully locally on the UNVR Instant. There are no monthly fees, no cloud subscription, and no data leaving your premises.
What hard drive do I need?
Any compatible 3.5″ SATA HDD. Ubiquiti recommends surveillance-grade drives (e.g. WD Purple or Seagate SkyHawk) for 24/7 recording reliability. The drive is not included.
How many cameras can the UNVR Instant support?
Up to 6 × 4K cameras, 8 × 2K cameras, or 15 × HD cameras. You can also mix resolutions within these limits.
Can I connect more than 6 cameras?
The UNVR Instant has 6 built-in PoE ports. Additional cameras can be connected via a separate PoE switch on the uplink port, up to the maximum camera count supported by the unit.
What cameras are compatible?
All UniFi Protect cameras are compatible, including the G6 Turret, G6 Bullet, G6 Dome, G6 PTZ, and older G4/G5 series cameras.
Can I view cameras remotely?
Yes. The UniFi Protect app supports remote viewing via the UniFi cloud relay — no port forwarding required. Remote access is free with a UniFi account.
