Description
TP-Link TL-WA1801 — AX1800 Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Access Point
The TP-Link TL-WA1801 is a ceiling or wall-mountable Wi-Fi 6 access point that brings AX1800 dual-band wireless performance to homes, offices, cafes, and small business environments. With Passive PoE support for single-cable deployment, four operating modes, WPA3 security, and Captive Portal functionality, it’s a flexible and installer-friendly solution for upgrading existing networks to the latest generation of Wi-Fi across Australia.
Key Features
-
AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 Dual-Band: Combined wireless speeds of up to 1800 Mbps — 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz — for fast, reliable connectivity across multiple devices simultaneously.
-
Passive PoE Powered: Supports Passive PoE for single-cable power and data delivery, simplifying installation in ceilings, walls, and locations without nearby power outlets.
-
4-in-1 Operating Modes: Supports Access Point, Range Extender, Multi-SSID, and Client modes — adaptable to a wide range of network configurations and deployment scenarios.
-
Beamforming Technology: Four fixed antennas with Beamforming concentrate Wi-Fi signals towards connected devices, extending reliable coverage across larger spaces.
-
WPA3 Security: The latest Wi-Fi security standard provides stronger encryption and enhanced protection against brute-force attacks for personal and business networks.
-
Captive Portal: Built-in Captive Portal support enables a branded guest login page — ideal for cafes, salons, retail stores, and hospitality venues offering customer Wi-Fi.
-
Gigabit Ethernet Port: A single Gigabit LAN/WAN port ensures full-speed wired backhaul and connectivity for wired devices.
-
Multi-SSID Support: Broadcast multiple SSIDs to segment guest and staff networks without additional hardware.
-
Easy Setup & Management: Configure and manage via the free TP-Link Tether app (iOS & Android) or the web management interface.
Use Cases
-
Office Wi-Fi Upgrades: Replace ageing access points with Wi-Fi 6 for faster speeds and better performance in high-device-density office environments.
-
Cafes & Hospitality: Captive Portal and Multi-SSID make it ideal for venues offering branded guest Wi-Fi with network segmentation between staff and customers.
-
Retail & Small Business: Single-cable PoE deployment keeps installations clean and cost-effective in shopfronts, reception areas, and open-plan spaces.
-
Home Network Extension: Use in Range Extender or Access Point mode to eliminate Wi-Fi dead zones in larger homes or multi-storey properties.
-
Education & Community Spaces: Multi-SSID and WPA3 security support segmented, secure wireless access for staff, students, and guests from a single device.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the TL-WA1801 support standard 802.3af/at PoE switches?
The TL-WA1801 supports Passive PoE, not active IEEE 802.3af/at PoE. It requires a Passive PoE injector or a compatible Passive PoE switch. Using it with a standard 802.3af/at PoE switch without a Passive PoE injector may not power the device correctly. Check compatibility before installation.
What is the difference between Access Point mode and Range Extender mode?
In Access Point mode, the TL-WA1801 connects to your router via Ethernet and broadcasts a new Wi-Fi network — ideal for wired backhaul deployments. In Range Extender mode, it connects wirelessly to your existing router and rebroadcasts the signal to extend coverage — useful where running a cable is not practical.
Can I use the Captive Portal for a cafe or retail store?
Yes. The built-in Captive Portal allows you to create a branded guest login page where customers must accept terms or view a message before accessing the internet. It’s well suited to cafes, salons, retail stores, and any venue offering customer-facing Wi-Fi.
How many SSIDs can the TL-WA1801 broadcast?
The TL-WA1801 supports Multi-SSID mode, allowing multiple separate wireless networks to be broadcast from a single device — useful for separating guest and staff networks without additional hardware.
Is the TL-WA1801 compatible with the TP-Link Omada SDN platform?
No. The TL-WA1801 is managed via the TP-Link Tether app or web interface and is not part of the Omada SDN ecosystem. For centralised multi-AP management via Omada Controller, consider TP-Link’s Omada EAP access point range instead.
Can the TL-WA1801 be ceiling mounted?
Yes. The TL-WA1801 supports both wall and ceiling mounting. Mounting hardware is included in the box, and the compact design blends into most commercial and residential interiors.
