Description
TP-Link TL-SF1016 16-Port 10/100Mbps Rackmount Network Switch
The TP-Link TL-SF1016 is a compact, fanless 16-port Fast Ethernet rackmount switch designed for small businesses, server rooms, and network infrastructure deployments across Australia. With 16 × 10/100Mbps RJ45 ports, auto MDI/MDIX on every port, and energy-efficient technology that reduces power consumption by up to 75%, it delivers reliable, low-maintenance network connectivity in a standard 19-inch 1U rack form factor — at an accessible price point.
Key Features
-
16 × 10/100Mbps RJ45 Ports — Connects up to 16 wired devices simultaneously at Fast Ethernet speeds, suitable for office networks, IP cameras, VoIP phones, and access points.
-
Plug & Play — No configuration, software, or management interface required — connect and the switch operates immediately.
-
Auto MDI/MDIX on All Ports — Automatically detects and adjusts for straight-through or crossover cables, eliminating cable type concerns during installation.
-
Fanless & Silent Operation — No moving parts means completely silent operation — ideal for office environments, comms rooms, and noise-sensitive installations.
-
Energy-Efficient Technology — Reduces power consumption by up to 75% by detecting cable length and link status, and adjusting power output accordingly.
-
Standard 19-Inch 1U Rackmount — Fits any standard 19-inch rack or cabinet; rackmount kit included in the box.
-
Store-and-Forward Switching — Checks each packet for errors before forwarding, improving network reliability and reducing error propagation.
-
8K MAC Address Table — Supports up to 8,000 MAC address entries for efficient packet forwarding in larger network environments.
-
Steel Enclosure — Robust all-metal construction for durability in rack and cabinet deployments.
Use Cases
- Small business server rooms and comms cabinets requiring a cost-effective 16-port Fast Ethernet switch
- IP camera and NVR installations where 100Mbps per port is sufficient for camera bandwidth requirements
- Office networks connecting desktop PCs, VoIP phones, and access points to a central switch
- Expanding an existing network with additional ports without replacing the core infrastructure
- Education facilities, strata buildings, and small warehouses needing a simple, unmanaged rackmount switch

19-Inch Network Rack or Wall Cabinet — Required for rackmount installation; the TL-SF1016 fits any standard 19-inch 1U rack space.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the TL-SF1016 a managed or unmanaged switch?
The TL-SF1016 is an unmanaged switch. It requires no configuration, login, or management interface — simply connect your devices and it operates automatically. If you need VLANs, QoS, or port monitoring, consider TP-Link’s JetStream managed switch range.
Does this switch support PoE?
No. The TL-SF1016 does not provide Power over Ethernet. If you need to power IP cameras, access points, or VoIP phones via Ethernet, use a TP-Link PoE switch (such as the TL-SG108PE) or add a PoE injector (such as the TL-POE260S) to individual ports.
Is 100Mbps per port sufficient for IP cameras?
Yes, for most IP camera deployments. A typical 4MP or 8MP IP camera streams at 4–8Mbps, well within the 100Mbps capacity of each port. For high-density NVR systems with many high-bitrate cameras on a single uplink, a Gigabit switch may be more appropriate.
Can I use Cat5e cable with this switch?
Yes. The TL-SF1016 supports Cat5, Cat5e, and Cat6 UTP cable for 100BASE-TX operation at up to 100 metres. Cat5e or Cat6 is recommended for new installations.
How loud is the switch in operation?
The TL-SF1016 is completely fanless, meaning it produces no noise during operation. This makes it suitable for office environments, meeting rooms, and any installation where fan noise would be disruptive.
Does the rackmount kit come included?
Yes. The box includes the switch, power cord, rackmount kit (brackets and screws), rubber feet for desktop use, and an installation guide. No additional hardware is required for standard 19-inch rack installation.
