Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Tapo P100 work with 5GHz Wi-Fi?
No. The Tapo P100 connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks only. If your router broadcasts both 2.4GHz and 5GHz on the same SSID, you may need to separate them or temporarily connect your phone to the 2.4GHz band during setup.
Do I need a smart home hub?
No hub is required. The Tapo P100 connects directly to your home Wi-Fi router and is managed entirely through the free Tapo app.
Is it compatible with Apple HomeKit?
The Tapo P100 is not natively compatible with Apple HomeKit. It works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. For HomeKit compatibility, consider the Tapo P125M or other Matter-enabled Tapo smart plugs.
Can I use it with high-power appliances like a heater or air conditioner?
The Tapo P100 supports up to 2300W / 10A, which covers most portable heaters and fans. However, reverse-cycle air conditioners and other high-draw appliances may exceed this rating — always check your appliance's power consumption before use.
Can I control it when I'm not at home?
Yes. As long as the Tapo P100 is connected to your Wi-Fi and you have internet access on your phone, you can control it from anywhere in the world via the Tapo app.
How many Tapo P100 sockets can I manage in the app?
There is no fixed limit — you can add multiple Tapo P100 sockets (and other Tapo devices) to a single Tapo account and manage them all from one app.
