What is Wi-Fi 6E and how is it different from Wi-Fi 6?
Wi-Fi 6E extends the Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard into the 6 GHz frequency band, which is newly available in Australia. The 6 GHz band offers significantly more spectrum, less congestion from neighbouring networks, and lower latency compared to the crowded 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Only Wi-Fi 6E-compatible devices can connect to the 6 GHz band, but all existing Wi-Fi devices continue to work on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands as normal.
Is the 6 GHz band available in Australia?
Yes. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has approved the use of the 6 GHz band for Wi-Fi in Australia, making Wi-Fi 6E devices like the Deco XE75 fully legal and operational for Australian consumers.
How does the Deco XE75 use the 6 GHz band as backhaul?
The Deco XE75 reserves the 6 GHz band as a dedicated wireless backhaul channel between Deco units. This means the high-speed inter-unit communication does not compete with client devices on the 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz bands, resulting in significantly better real-world throughput compared to mesh systems that share backhaul and client traffic on the same band.
Will the Deco XE75 work with my existing NBN connection?
Yes. The Deco XE75 is compatible with all major Australian NBN connection types including FTTP, FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, and HFC. The 2.5G WAN port on the primary Deco unit ensures you won’t be bottlenecked on high-speed NBN 1000 plans.
Can I add more Deco XE75 units to expand coverage later?
Yes. The Deco system is fully expandable. You can add additional Deco XE75 units (sold separately as a 1-Pack) at any time through the Deco app to extend coverage to additional areas of your home or property.
Does the Deco XE75 replace my existing modem?
The Deco XE75 functions as a router and mesh Wi-Fi system but does not include a built-in modem. For NBN connections that require a modem (such as FTTN or FTTB), you will need to keep your existing modem and connect the primary Deco unit to it via Ethernet. For FTTP connections, the Deco XE75 can connect directly to the NBN connection box.
