The Hikvision DS-UPS-R/AU range is a line of line-interactive tower UPS units designed to keep your CCTV recording running through mains dropouts, brownouts and dirty power. Available in 600 VA / 360 W (small residential NVRs), 1000 VA / 600 W (mainstream commercial NVR + camera load) and 2000 VA / 1200 W (large PoE switches, multi-HDD NVRs, larger sites). Why a UPS Matters for a CCTV or NVR System
Every CCTV recorder has a hard drive that's writing continuously. When the mains flicks off mid-write — a lightning strike, a substation dip, someone tripping the RCD — the HDD doesn't get to flush its cache before the power dies. The result is corrupted footage, index errors, or in the worst case a bricked RAID array. A UPS gives the NVR 5-15 minutes of clean battery power on an outage; the NVR shuts down cleanly (via USB signalling on models that support it), the HDD flushes properly, and there's no corruption when the power comes back. Rule of thumb: add up the wattage of everything you want protected (NVR + PoE switch + modem + a small monitor if used), then pick the UPS that's at least 1.5× that number in watts. Sizing headroom = longer runtime + longer battery life.

What's the difference between VA and Watts?VA (volt-amps) is the apparent power rating; Watts is the real power the UPS can deliver. For CCTV/NVR loads, the wattage number is what actually matters — that's what you compare against the actual draw of your equipment. VA is what UPS marketing leads with because it's a bigger number.
How long will the UPS run my NVR for?Depends on load. A typical 8-camera Hikvision NVR draws ~120-180 W. At half load, the 1000 VA runs 15-25 min, the 2000 VA runs 25-40 min, and the 600 VA runs 5-10 min. Enough for a clean shutdown; not enough to keep recording through a multi-hour outage. For that, you want a larger UPS or a solar / genset solution.
Can it auto-shutdown my NVR?Yes — connect the USB cable from the UPS to the NVR's USB port and enable UPS shutdown in the NVR settings.
