What is "bi-spectrum" and why do I need two sensors?

Bi-spectrum = one thermal sensor + one optical (visible-light) sensor in the same housing. The thermal sensor detects at distances and in conditions where a visible camera can't see (total darkness, smoke, fog, glare). The optical sensor verifies — gives you the colour picture needed to identify who or what triggered the alarm. Both stream simultaneously to your NVR.

How accurate is the temperature measurement?

±8 °C accuracy across a range of −20 °C to +150 °C. Precise enough for exception alarms (a bearing running 40 °C hot, a battery bank overheating, a waste pile igniting) — but not a substitute for a calibrated industrial pyrometer if you need medical-grade or metrology-grade accuracy. For loss-prevention and fire-prevention use cases, ±8 °C is more than enough.

Will fire detection actually trigger on a small fire at 82.8 m?

    What is "bi-spectrum" and why do I need two sensors?

    Bi-spectrum = one thermal sensor + one optical (visible-light) sensor in the same housing. The thermal sensor detects at distances and in conditions where a visible camera can't see (total darkness, smoke, fog, glare). The optical sensor verifies — gives you the colour picture needed to identify who or what triggered the alarm. Both stream simultaneously to your NVR.

    How accurate is the temperature measurement?

    ±8 °C accuracy across a range of −20 °C to +150 °C. Precise enough for exception alarms (a bearing running 40 °C hot, a battery bank overheating, a waste pile igniting) — but not a substitute for a calibrated industrial pyrometer if you need medical-grade or metrology-grade accuracy. For loss-prevention and fire-prevention use cases, ±8 °C is more than enough.

    Will fire detection actually trigger on a small fire at 82.8 m?

    Yes for a hot spot of at least 0.2 × 0.2 m (per Hikvision's spec). That covers a typical ignition source — a burning cardboard box, a smouldering tyre, a hot piece of lithium-battery debris. A single flickering flame or a lit cigarette is below this threshold — for that, the smoking detection algorithm works up to about 10 m.

    What's the low-light performance of the optical channel?

    0.0089 lux at F1.6 — good for suburban night ambient lighting. Below that, the optical channel uses its 15 m built-in IR illuminator to see; the thermal channel doesn't need any light at all and runs at full detection range 24/7.

    Does it run on standard PoE?

    Yes — PoE 802.3af Class 3 (max 6.5 W). Runs on any Hikvision NVR built-in PoE port, no special injector or Hi-PoE switch needed. Also accepts 12 VDC for solar / battery-powered remote installs.

    How high should I mount the camera for the full 287 m human detection range?

    For maximum detection range along a flat perimeter, mount the camera at 3-4 m height with a slight downward tilt of 5-10°. Higher mounts extend the horizon but reduce the vertical FOV at close range. For fence-line coverage, aim the thermal FOV (24.9°) parallel to the fence — that gives you the longest detection stripe along the line.

    Can I integrate this with an existing non-Hikvision VMS?

    Yes. The camera speaks ONVIF Profile S and Profile G and RTSP for both thermal and optical streams. Compatible with most Australian VMS platforms — Milestone XProtect, Genetec, Exacq, Immix Central Station, etc. Note that some advanced Hikvision-specific analytics (temperature exception metadata) only surface fully on Hikvision NVRs and iVMS-4200.

    What warranty covers the thermal detector specifically?
