Hikvision DS-2DF6A436XG1-EL(Y) — 4MP 36× DarkFighter 2.0 Network Speed Dome PTZ (NEMA 4X Anti-Corrosion)
The Hikvision DS-2DF6A436XG1-EL(Y) is Hikvision's flagship 6A Ultra-Series PTZ speed dome — a 4MP outdoor pan/tilt/zoom camera built around a 1/1.8" progressive-scan CMOS sensor, a 36× optical zoom motorised lens (6–216 mm, F1.2), DarkFighter 2.0 ultra-low-light technology and 150 dB AWDR. The -Y suffix on this Australian-stocked SKU denotes Hikvision's moderate anti-corrosion housing — NEMA 4X-rated for coastal Australian sites within roughly 2 km of the shoreline and for areas affected by acid rain. The base DS-2DF6A436XG1-EL (no -Y) ships with no specific corrosion protection; we stock the -Y variant by default.
This is a true long-range surveillance PTZ: the 36× zoom paired with the 1/1.8" DarkFighter 2.0 sensor identifies a target at 297.9 m at full telephoto under EN 62676-4 criteria, and detects a vehicle-sized object out to 2,979 m. On-camera deep-learning AI drives perimeter protection (line crossing, region entry / exit, intrusion), multi-target-type detection (simultaneous human / face / vehicle with feature extraction), face capture for up to 30 simultaneous faces, face comparison across 10 face libraries with 150,000 total faces, and Smart Tracking 3.0 auto-tracking with armed-person and armed-vehicle modes. Built-in gyroscope EIS, heater + demist, lightning surge protection, TPM 2.0 (FIPS 140-2 Level 2) hardware-rooted cyber security, and IP67 + IK10 outdoor rating. Australian stock, 3-year Australian warranty.

Why Choose the DS-2DF6A436XG1-EL(Y)
A long-zoom PTZ has one job no fixed camera can do: follow the action. The 36× motorised optical zoom on a 1/1.8" DarkFighter 2.0 sensor combines reach (identify at ~300 m, detect to ~3 km), low-light competence (clear colour image at 0.0003 lux) and on-camera deep-learning AI that drives the camera to lock onto and follow a target the moment perimeter or face-detection triggers. For Australian sites where one camera has to cover a large area — port aprons, mining haul roads, council carparks, freight yards, marina entrances, school perimeters, large industrial campuses, lot-line residential acreage — the 6A PTZ is the single-asset that replaces a fleet of fixed cameras.
36× Optical Zoom — Identify at 297.9 m
The 6–216 mm motorised lens with maximum F1.2 aperture identifies a target at telephoto out to 297.9 m (EN 62676-4 Identify), recognises at 595.9 m, and detects out to 2,979 m. One pole, one camera, one cable run — covering the area a small fleet of fixed bullets used to cover.
DarkFighter 2.0 — Ultra-Low-Light Colour
Hikvision's second-generation DarkFighter pulls a clean colour image at 0.0003 lux @ F1.2 and monochrome at 0.0001 lux. That's enough sensitivity to keep colour information in scenes lit only by streetlight, after-hours dock lighting or moonlight — no external IR illuminator is needed for most ambient-lit Australian sites.
150 dB AWDR — Handles Australian Glare
Class-leading 150 dB true wide dynamic range manages the worst Australian lighting transitions — low sun at the gate at 5 pm, headlights at a boomgate entry, shadow lines across a covered apron, water glare at a marina — without losing detail in either highlights or shadows.
Smart Tracking 3.0 + Auto-Tracking
When perimeter AI detects a human or vehicle, Smart Tracking 3.0 automatically pans, tilts and zooms the camera to keep the target framed, recording the full pursuit. Armed-person and armed-vehicle modes let security teams flag specific targets that, when seen, trigger alarms + tracking + capture upload.
Face Capture — 30 Simultaneous, 150,000 Library
The on-camera face engine detects, tracks and grades up to 30 simultaneous faces, uploads the best frame plus context, and supports 10 face libraries × 30,000 faces each (150,000 total) with encrypted library storage — enterprise-scale watchlist and known-visitor recognition without an external face server.
NEMA 4X Anti-Corrosion (-Y Variant)
The -Y suffix indicates Hikvision's moderate anti-corrosion housing — NEMA 4X for coastal Australian sites within ~2 km of the shoreline and areas exposed to acid rain. Combined with IP67 + IK10 + lightning surge protection (±6 kV line-to-ground), the camera is engineered for the Australian outdoor environment.
Pan / Tilt / Zoom — Industrial-Grade Movement
360° Continuous Pan · 300°/s
Continuous 360° pan with a preset speed of 300°/s — the camera can swing from one preset target to a diagonally-opposite preset in a fraction of a second. Configurable pan speed from 0.1°/s for cinematic patrol to 300°/s for incident response.
Tilt −20° to +90° · Auto-Flip
Tilt range from −20° (below the horizon, useful for tower-mounted overviews of carparks below) to +90° with auto-flip support for tracking a target straight under the dome. Tilt speed 0.1° to 150°/s with 250°/s presets.
300 Presets · 8 Patrols · 4 Pattern Scans
300 presets per camera, 8 patrol routes (up to 32 presets each) and 4 pattern scans (over 10 minutes record each). Schedule the camera to walk a perimeter route automatically every shift change — a guard's eyes that never get tired.
3D Positioning + Power-Off Memory
Click a target on the live image and the camera pans / tilts / zooms to centre and frame it in one motion. Power-off memory means the camera returns to its previous orientation after a brown-out without operator intervention.
Built-in Gyroscope EIS
Built-in gyroscope drives electronic image stabilisation — important for tall pole installs in coastal wind, mining-site tower mounts and any environment where the mount can vibrate. Keeps the image steady for both human review and AI processing.
Heater + Demist · Lightning Surge
Built-in heater + demist function handle Australian morning condensation and overnight dew cycling. Lightning surge protection at ±6 kV line-to-ground / ±3 kV line-to-line (IEC 61000-4-5) protects the camera and the upstream network against typical strike-induced transients.
On-Camera Deep-Learning AI
The 6A PTZ doesn't simply record what crosses its field of view — it understands it. On-camera deep-learning algorithms run continuously, classifying objects and triggering only on the targets that matter.
Perimeter Protection — Filtered Alarms
Line crossing, region entrance, intrusion and region exiting detection — each restricted to human and / or vehicle targets, ignoring the rain, foliage, animals and lights that plague conventional motion detection.
Multi-Target-Type Detection
Simultaneous detection and feature extraction across three target classes: human (14 features), face (7 features) and vehicle (8 features). Feeds rich metadata into your NVR for fast post-incident search.
Face Capture & Comparison
Detects up to 30 faces in frame simultaneously, grades face quality, and uploads the best frame plus a wider context shot. Compare against on-camera face libraries — 10 libraries × 30,000 faces = 150,000 total — with encrypted library storage.
Smart Tracking 3.0 — Auto Follow
The camera locks onto a detected target and pans / tilts / zooms automatically to keep it framed for the full duration of the event. Manual override available at any moment from the iVMS-4200 client or HikCentral.
Object Arming — Person & Vehicle
Arm specific faces or specific vehicles. When the camera detects an armed target in scene, it triggers alarms, tracks the target, and uploads location and identification metadata to the NVR / HikCentral for the security team to action.
Audio & Behaviour Events
Audio exception detection, video tampering, scene change, unattended baggage detection and object removal detection — useful for unmanned dock aprons, school perimeters and after-hours retail loading bays.
Important Install Note — Hi-PoE or 36 VDC
The 6A PTZ does not run on standard PoE+ (802.3at, 25.5 W). The camera body, motor drive, heater and zoom assembly draw up to 45 W on 36 VDC or 40 W on Hi-PoE — outside the 802.3at envelope. Standardise on one of the following:
-
Hi-PoE (60 W class) injector or switch on the camera's network run — the cleanest install, single cable carries data and power.
-
36 VDC dedicated supply at the camera — used where you're carrying power separately from the network drop (for example, on a long fibre run where the network side is on SFP).
Both options reserve up to 6 W of the budget for the built-in heater. Hikvision-branded Hi-PoE injectors (DS-1602ZJ-AKS wall mount with PoE midspan compatibility) and third-party Hi-PoE injectors both work — please contact our Australian team for the right injector for your site.

DS-2DF6A436XG1-EL(Y) vs DS-2DF7A436IXG-EL(Y) — Ultra 6A or Ultra 7A IR?
Hikvision sells two closely-related 4MP 36× speed-dome PTZs in Australia: the DS-2DF6A436XG1-EL(Y) reviewed above (Ultra 6A · DarkFighter 2.0 · no built-in IR illuminator) and its higher-tier sibling the DS-2DF7A436IXG-EL(Y) (Ultra 7A · DarkFighter · with built-in IR illuminator). They share the same 36× zoom range, the same outdoor footprint and the same PTZ kinematics. The decision comes down to how dark the scene actually gets at the longest mounting distance: choose the 6A when ambient light (street, dock, perimeter) is sufficient for DarkFighter 2.0, and choose the 7A when the camera must work in complete darkness at the far end of its zoom range.
DS-2DF6A436XG1-EL(Y) (Ultra 6A · DarkFighter 2.0) vs DS-2DF7A436IXG-EL(Y) (Ultra 7A · IR)

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the "-Y" suffix mean and which variant do you stock?
The -Y suffix indicates Hikvision's moderate anti-corrosion housing — NEMA 4X-rated, designed for coastal Australian sites within ~2 km of the shoreline and areas affected by acid rain. We stock the DS-2DF6A436XG1-ELY (with -Y) as our Australian default. The base DS-2DF6A436XG1-EL (no -Y) has "no specific anti-corrosion protection" per the datasheet — we don't stock it.
Does it have a built-in IR illuminator?
No. The 6A model relies on the DarkFighter 2.0 sensor for low-light performance — it produces a clean colour image at 0.0003 lux and monochrome at 0.0001 lux. For most ambient-lit Australian sites (carparks, dock aprons, residential acreage with security lighting, marinas) DarkFighter 2.0 alone is sufficient. For completely dark sites at long range, choose the DS-2DF7A436IXG-EL(Y) 7A sibling which adds a built-in IR illuminator, or add an external IR illuminator to this 6A camera.
Why doesn't it support standard PoE+?
Total camera power draw (sensor, SoC, pan/tilt motors, zoom motor, heater) is up to 45 W on 36 VDC or 40 W on Hi-PoE, exceeding the 25.5 W limit of standard PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at). The camera ships ready for Hi-PoE (60 W class) or 36 VDC direct. Most modern Hikvision Hi-PoE injectors and Hi-PoE network switches support this camera over a single Cat 6 run.
How far away can the camera identify a target?
Per EN 62676-4 criteria at full telephoto: Detect 2,979 m · Observe 1,182 m · Recognise 596 m · Identify 297.9 m. "Identify" means the image is detailed enough to recognise a specific individual — that's a usable working distance for almost any commercial site. Detection extends nearly 3 km.
How does auto-tracking work in practice?
Smart Tracking 3.0 — when on-camera deep-learning detects a human or vehicle entering a defined region or crossing a defined line, the camera automatically pans, tilts and zooms to keep the target framed for the duration of the event. Manual override is always available from iVMS-4200 / HikCentral / Hik-Connect, and armed-person and armed-vehicle modes let you flag specific faces or specific vehicles that trigger tracking on detection.
How many faces can it store on-camera for comparison?
Up to 10 face libraries × 30,000 faces each = 150,000 total faces. Library storage is encrypted on the camera. Sufficient for enterprise watchlist (known visitors, known vehicles, known persons of interest) without requiring an external face-recognition server.
Is this NDAA Section 889 compliant?
No. Hikvision is subject to NDAA Section 889 restrictions in the United States. For NDAA-compliant PTZ projects (typically US federally-funded), we stock alternative brands — please contact our team for a recommendation. For Australian commercial, council, port-authority, private and most state-government projects without an NDAA contractual requirement, this camera is freely usable.
Will the camera record locally if the NVR drops?
Yes. microSD up to 1 TB with ANR (Auto Network Replenishment) — when the network link to the NVR drops, the camera continues writing locally and automatically backfills missed footage to the NVR drive once the link returns.
Why is the Ethernet only 10/100 Mbps?
Hikvision's design choice on the 6A series. The maximum video bit rate of 16,384 Kbps (16 Mbps) for the main stream is well under the 100 Mbps Ethernet ceiling, so gigabit isn't required for the camera's own bandwidth. If you have an existing gigabit drop, the camera auto-negotiates at 100 Mbps and operates normally.
What's the warranty and where is it serviced?
This camera ships with a 3-year Australian Hikvision warranty, serviced back-to-base through Hikvision Australia. CCTV Guru manages the entire RA process from our Sydney office and provides Australian-based pre-sales and technical support for the life of the product.
Do you ship Australia-wide and is stock genuine?
Yes — Australian stock from authorised Hikvision Australia channels (not parallel imports). We ship Australia-wide every business day with same-day dispatch on orders placed before 2 pm AEST to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra, Darwin and regional addresses.
