Deep learning on the edge
The ARTPEC-8 DLPU runs AXIS Object Analytics (humans, cars, buses, trucks, bikes) with line crossing, object-in-area, crossline counting, occupancy and time-in-area — up to 10 simultaneous scenarios, no server licence required.
Lightfinder 2.0 + Forensic WDR
Colour down to 0.07 lux and B/W to 0.01 lux at F1.6, with Forensic WDR up to 120 dB to hold detail across bright doorways, headlights and deep shadow in the same frame.
Rich forensic metadata
AXIS Scene Metadata streams object classes, vehicle colour and upper/lower clothing colour, making after-the-fact searches in a compatible VMS dramatically faster than scrubbing footage.
Hardened by Axis Edge Vault
Signed OS, secure boot, signed video, Axis device ID and a CC EAL6+ secure element with TPM 2.0 (FIPS 140-2 Level 2) protect the camera's identity and your evidence chain.
What does remote PTRZ actually let me do?It lets you pan ±190°, tilt -8° to +75°, roll ±97° and zoom/focus the camera over the network from a browser or VMS. You aim the camera once at install and can re-aim it later without a lift, ladder or site visit.
Is this a PTZ camera? No. PTRZ is for installation and re-adjustment, not live operator tracking. The camera is a fixed dome once positioned, though digital PTZ with preset positions is available within the 8 MP image.
Does the Q3628-VE have built-in IR illumination? No, there is no built-in IR. It relies on Lightfinder 2.0 for low-light performance, delivering colour down to 0.07 lux. For genuinely unlit scenes, add external IR or white-light illumination.
What field of view will I get?The 6.2–12.9 mm varifocal covers 103° down to 48° horizontally. Wide end suits forecourts and car parks; the tele end pushes pixel density out to gates, loading docks and long approaches.
How is it powered?PoE per IEEE 802.3at Type 2 Class 4 (typical 8 W, max 25 W), or 10–28 V DC via terminal block. Budget a Class 4 / PoE+ port on your switch or NVR rather than a basic 802.3af port.
Which analytics are included at no extra cost?AXIS Object Analytics, AXIS Scene Metadata, AXIS Image Health Analytics, AXIS Video Motion Detection, AXIS Live Privacy Shield, tampering and audio detection all run on the edge DLPU. AXIS Perimeter Defender and License Plate Verifier are supported as separate licences.
Will it work with my existing VMS?Yes. It supports ONVIF Profiles S, T, G and M, plus VAPIX, and is compatible with AXIS Camera Station Edge, Pro and 5 as well as Axis partner VMS platforms.
Can it handle Australian conditions? It is rated -50 °C to 55 °C with IP66, IP6K9K and NEMA 4X sealing and an IK10 vandal-resistant metal casing, so coastal, industrial and full-sun installations are well within spec.
Does it record without an NVR?Yes. It takes a microSD/SDHC/SDXC card (sold separately) with AES-XTS 256-bit encryption for edge recording, and can also record directly to network-attached storage.
