Eight megapixels of resolution means you can zoom into recorded 4K footage and still read a face, a licence plate at close range or a product label. Forensic WDR keeps detail in scenes with both very bright and very dark areas, and when the lights go out Axis OptimizedIR adapts the IR beam to the lens zoom position so the whole frame is evenly lit instead of a hot centre and dark corners. Zipstream with H.264 and H.265 keeps 4K storage costs under control.
Deep Learning on the Edge
The onboard DLPU powers AXIS Object Analytics, producing object metadata for fast forensic search in live and recorded video, plus the time-in-area feature for loitering detection.
Remote Zoom & Focus
The 3.5–6.6 mm varifocal lens covers 93°–47° horizontally and is set remotely with auto focus — no ladder trips to fine-tune the view after mounting.
HDMI Public View Monitor
The HDMI output with AXIS Face Detector drives a public viewing monitor at the entrance, a simple and effective retail theft deterrent.
Axis Edge Vault Cybersecurity
Signed OS, secure boot and a CC EAL6+ secure keystore guarantee device integrity. Axis is NDAA Section 889 and TAA compliant for government and enterprise procurement.
Does the AXIS M4218-LV have night vision?Yes. It has built-in Axis OptimizedIR, which adapts the infrared beam to the lens zoom position for even illumination, and it can capture usable B/W video down to 0 lux — complete darkness.
What resolution and frame rate does it deliver?8 MP 4K (3840×2160) at up to 12/15 fps from a 1/2.8" CMOS sensor.
How is it different from the AXIS M4215-V?The M4218-LV is 8 MP 4K with built-in OptimizedIR, while the M4215-V is 2 MP with Lightfinder and no IR. Both share the same 3.5–6.6 mm varifocal lens, DLPU analytics and IK08 housing.
Can I set the zoom and focus remotely?Yes. Remote zoom and remote focus with auto focus let you set the 93°–47° horizontal field of view from the browser after mounting.
Can it be installed outdoors? No. It is IP42 rated and specified for 0 to 40 °C, which is an indoor rating. Use an outdoor-ready Axis model for exterior positions.
What analytics are included? The deep learning processing unit runs AXIS Object Analytics with the time-in-area feature for loitering detection, plus AXIS Face Detector for public view monitor setups.
How much power does it need?It is PoE Class 3, so a single Cat6 cable from a PoE switch or NVR provides both power and data.
Does it have a built-in microphone? No. Audio and I/O connectivity are added through an AXIS T61 Series audio and I/O interface.
Is Axis NDAA compliant for government tenders?Yes. Axis Communications equipment is NDAA Section 889 and TAA compliant, so the M4218-LV is eligible for government, education and enterprise projects.
