Smart Motion Detection Plus runs a deep-learning second pass on 16 NVR-side channels — half the entire licence — classifying targets as person or vehicle so only real events make it to your phone or VMS.
Video Metadata by NVR (4 ch · 22 attributes)
NVR-side metadata extraction on the S2 platform — 22 attributes covering top colour, bottom colour, hat, bag, umbrella, gender, age, vehicle make / model / colour / plate, helmet wear and more. Works regardless of camera brand.

QuickPick + AI Search
Search recorded video by structured attributes (gender, age, clothing colour, vehicle plate) or upload a reference face image and the NVR finds every appearance across all 32 channels.
PPE Detection (camera-side)
Detect safety attributes — helmets, safety vests, face masks, glasses, top/bottom colour — and trigger compliance or non-compliance alarms based on the site's requirements. Essential for construction, mining, warehousing, food-processing and any site with mandated PPE rules.
Smart Object Detection
Detect objects entering, leaving or lingering in defined zones — abandoned bags, unattended vehicles, illegally parked deliveries, missing equipment. Reduces the manual review workload for high-traffic sites.
Smart Sound Detection
Camera-side audio-event detection — breaking glass, gunshot, screaming, sudden loud noises — triggers a recording bookmark and alarm without needing a separate audio-analytics box.

AI-tuned H.265+ encoding cuts bitrate on static background pixels while preserving detail on moving targets — roughly half the storage and bandwidth of standard H.264.
1. Rack & power up
Fit rack ears (optional Dahua DHI-RailBracket60/LShaped) in a standard 19-inch cabinet, insert up to four surveillance HDDs, connect the kettle-cord power, gigabit uplink, and mouse/monitor via HDMI.
2. First-boot wizard
NVR NEXT walks you through region, date/time, network (DHCP or static), and admin password. Australian firmware defaults set correct AS/NZS timezone and DST rules out of the box.
3. Plug in cameras (PoE ports)
Dahua WizSense cameras auto-detect on the built-in PoE ports and appear in the channel list within ~60 seconds. Non-Dahua ONVIF cameras appear too — assign channel numbers via drag-and-drop in the Camera menu.
4. Enable SMD Plus + Perimeter
In the AI menu, enable SMD Plus on the channels you want deep-learning motion filtering. Draw tripwires or intrusion boxes for perimeter protection — 10 IVS rules per channel available.
5. Register faces + plates
Import face images and licence plates via USB or web GUI. Enable Face Recognition on 24 channels (image-stream) or 4 channels (video-stream), set alarm actions.
6. Connect DMSS mobile app
Install DMSS from the App Store / Google Play, scan the P2P QR code on the NVR menu, and you're live on mobile in under a minute — live view, playback, push notifications, two-way audio.

What's the difference between the -S2 and the older 5432-16P?
The -S2 is a full 2026 generational refresh. Headline changes: NVR NEXT GUI, native AcuPick (no firmware upgrade needed), PPE Detection + Smart Object & Sound Detection, 200 W PoE budget (up from 150 W — the "HP" in the model name), 8K HDMI output (up from 4K), ONVIF 25.06 with Profile M, larger face DB (30,000 vs 20,000 images), 24-ch face recognition at 24 fps (vs 16 ch at 16 fps), doubled NVR-side perimeter and SMD Plus channels, and 20 TB HDD support (up from 16 TB). Same 1.5U chassis, same 32 channels, same 3-year warranty.
What is PPE Detection and which industries need it?
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Detection is a camera-side AI feature that verifies workers are wearing required safety gear — helmets, high-vis vests, face masks, safety glasses. When a person enters a zone without the required PPE, the NVR triggers a compliance alarm. Widely used in construction, mining, chemical processing, warehousing, food manufacturing, workshops and any site where WHS regulations mandate PPE.
What does the "HP" in 16HP mean?
HP = High Power. The 16HP PoE variant has a 200 W total PoE budget vs the older 150 W on the plain 16P — 33% more headroom. That difference matters when you're running IR-heavy bullets, mini PTZs or active-deterrence cameras that draw closer to 25 W each.
Do I need V5 firmware to enable AcuPick like on the older 5-Series?
No — AcuPick is native on the S2 platform. It ships enabled out of the box and is listed on the official datasheet. The V5 firmware release notes are still worth downloading if you want the very latest bug fixes and feature refinements.
Does ONVIF Profile M actually matter?
Yes — Profile M is the new ONVIF metadata standard that lets your VMS platform (Milestone, Genetec, ExacqVision, etc.) consume AI events from the NVR natively. Before Profile M, you'd need custom integration work to surface face-recognition or perimeter events.
How much storage do I actually need for 32 cameras?
For 32 × 4 MP cameras on H.265+ motion-record, roughly 40–60 TB gives 30–45 days of retention. Four 16 TB drives (~64 TB) covers ~30–45 days; four 20 TB drives (~80 TB) covers ~45–60 days. Add the ESS1504C 4-bay eSATA cabinet for longer retention.
Is the DHI-NVR5432-16HP-AI/ANZ-S2 NDAA Section 889 compliant?
No. Dahua products are not currently NDAA Section 889 compliant. If NDAA compliance is required (federal, government or defence installs), choose a Uniview, Hanwha, Axis, Bosch or IDIS NVR instead — CCTV Guru can recommend an equivalent.
Can it be rack-mounted? Which brackets do I need?
Yes — 1.5U / 440 mm wide fits any standard 19-inch rack. Dahua's official rack rails are DHI-RailBracket60/LShaped (sold separately). At 4.56 kg empty, plan for ~8–10 kg fully loaded with four HDDs.
