That places it well beyond the −30 °C / −40 °C floor of conventional Hikvision DeepinView and AcuSense cameras. This is a perimeter-protection specialty camera — not an ANPR camera, not an active-deterrence camera, and not an AcuSeek camera — purpose-built for the cold environments where standard cameras simply refuse to boot.
Typical Australian deployments include commercial cold-storage and freezer warehouses, abattoir chillers, flash-freeze tunnels in food processing, refrigerated logistics, ice rinks, alpine telecom huts and mast cabinets, ski-resort chairlift towers, mining sites in the Snowy Mountains and Tasmanian high country, LNG and industrial-gas plants, and any sub-polar marine or research deployment. What This Camera Is — and What It Isn't
It's worth getting the positioning right upfront. The iDS-2CD8A46G0-IZ/UH is a specialty cold-environment perimeter-protection camera. It does one job extraordinarily well, and it deliberately doesn't try to do anything else. Knowing what's not on the spec sheet stops you from spec'ing the wrong camera for the wrong job.

Rated to start up from −60 °C — not merely operate after being warmed by sun. When power cycles overnight at an alpine site or an unstaffed cold-store, this camera boots immediately. Conventional cameras can refuse to boot until ambient warms past −30 °C.

✗ Not an AcuSeek-Native Camera
The camera predates Hikvision's AcuSeek roll-out and does not feed native AcuSeek metadata (persons / plates / vehicles / animals) into the NVR. It records and streams cleanly over ONVIF and Hikvision ISAPI to any modern Hikvision NVR — you just don't get plain-English natural-language search across this camera's archive.
Important Install Note — 12 VDC Only, No PoE
Unlike most modern Hikvision IP cameras, the iDS-2CD8A46G0-IZ/UH does not support PoE. The peak power draw with the heater on a cold-soaked −60 °C boot is up to 51.4 W, well above what standard 802.3af (15 W) or 802.3at (25.5 W) PoE can deliver at the camera end of a 100 m run. Hikvision standardises the camera on 12 VDC ± 10% direct, on a three-core terminal block, with reverse-polarity protection built in.
Plan for: a dedicated weatherproof 12 V power supply rated at minimum 5 A continuous with 15–20% headroom for the cold-start surge, or a 24 V → 12 V step-down regulator if you're carrying 24 V through a long cable run. For runs over 50 m, step up to 24 V at the supply and buck-convert at the camera to manage voltage drop. For freezer-aisle and alpine installs, choose an industrial DIN-rail supply mounted inside a heated control cabinet.

Both are 4MP DeepinView bullets, but they're built for entirely different jobs. Recording NVRs — Any Modern Hikvision NVR Works
The iDS-2CD8A46G0-IZ/UH streams to any modern Hikvision NVR over ONVIF Profile S/G/T and Hikvision ISAPI — there are no AcuSeek-specific or DeepinMind-specific requirements on the recorder side because this camera does not produce AcuSeek metadata. Is this an ANPR camera?
No. The iDS-2CD8A46G0-IZ/UH is a perimeter-protection DeepinView camera — line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting with human/vehicle classification. There is no LPR engine, no vehicle-attribute capture and no plate database. For on-camera number-plate recognition, choose the iDS-2CD7A46G2/P-IZHSY instead — the "/P" suffix is Hikvision's ANPR indicator.
Where would I actually use a −60 °C camera in Australia?
Far more sites than you'd expect. The most common Australian deployments are commercial cold-storage warehouses (typically held at −22 °C to −30 °C), flash-freeze tunnels in food processing (−35 °C to −40 °C), abattoir chillers and quarters-rooms, ice rinks, ski-resort chairlift top stations (often −15 °C ambient with sub-−30 °C wind chill at altitude), alpine telecom huts and mast cabinets in the Snowy Mountains and Tasmanian high country, LNG and cryogenic-gas plants, and Antarctic and sub-Antarctic research bases.
Why doesn't it support PoE?
The camera's cold-boot heater + sensor warm-up can draw up to 51.4 W, which is above what 802.3af (15 W) or even 802.3at (25.5 W) PoE can reliably deliver to the camera end of a 100 m run, especially at low temperature where cable resistance rises. Hikvision elected to drop PoE entirely on this model and standardise on 12 VDC direct so installers can spec a properly-sized cold-start supply.
What 12 VDC supply should I use?
Minimum 12 VDC ±10% at 5 A continuous, with 15–20% headroom for the cold-start surge — realistically a 12 V / 6 A or 8 A industrial DIN-rail supply. For cold-storage and alpine sites, choose an industrial-grade supply rated for the ambient where the supply itself is installed (typically inside a heated control cabinet). Reverse-polarity protection is built into the camera, but always check polarity at the terminal block before final commissioning.
Does the heater run continuously?
No. The camera's heater management is internal: the camera senses front-window and sensor temperatures and runs the heater only when needed to keep the imaging path clear. Steady-state power in a benign 0 °C ambient is much lower than the 51.4 W peak — the peak is reserved for cold-soak boot and active demist cycles. Plan supply capacity for the worst case.
Can I use it as an active-deterrence camera (strobe / speaker)?
No. There is no strobe, no built-in speaker, no built-in microphone and no two-way audio on this model. For active deterrence at a cold-environment site, install this camera as the perimeter sensor and pair it with a separate AcuSense Smart Hybrid Light camera (with strobe + speaker) at the entry door or gate.
Does it support AcuSeek natural-language search?
Not natively. AcuSeek requires camera-side metadata generation that this G0-architecture model predates. The camera records cleanly to any modern Hikvision NVR over ONVIF/ISAPI, but you don't get plain-English natural-language search across this camera's archive. AcuSeek-capable cameras elsewhere on the same NVR work normally.
Is the AI Open Platform the same as HEOP 2.0?
It's the earlier generation of Hikvision's open AI platform — supports one model slot (detection, classification, or mixed). The newer G2-generation cameras run HEOP 2.0 with more on-camera compute and multiple concurrent models. For most cold-storage and alpine deployments, one model — typically a PPE-on-personnel detector or stock-presence detector — is sufficient.
Is this NDAA Section 889 compliant?
No. Hikvision is subject to NDAA Section 889 restrictions in the United States. For NDAA-compliant cold-storage, mining or research projects (typically US federally-funded), we stock alternative brands — please contact our team for a cold-rated NDAA recommendation. For Australian commercial, council, private and most state-government projects without an NDAA contractual requirement, this camera is freely usable.
Does it record locally if the network drops?
Yes. microSD up to 256 GB with ANR (Auto Network Replenishment) — when the network link to the NVR drops, the camera continues writing locally and automatically backfills missed footage to the NVR drive once the link returns.
What's the maximum cable run from the 12 V supply?
That depends on cable gauge. As a rough rule, for the 51.4 W peak (~4.3 A at 12 V) you'll see ~3% voltage drop over 30 m of 18 AWG, ~3% over 50 m of 16 AWG, and ~3% over 80 m of 14 AWG. For runs over 50 m we recommend stepping up to 24 V at the supply and using a 24 V → 12 V buck converter at the camera, or installing the supply closer to the camera.
