Does the UXG-Lite work as a standalone router?
No. The UXG-Lite requires a UniFi Network controller (Cloud Key, UniFi OS Console, or Official UniFi Hosting running version 8.0.7 or later) to function. It cannot operate independently without a controller.
What is the difference between the UXG-Lite and UDM-Pro?
The UXG-Lite is a compact gateway-only device (no built-in controller, no NVR, no PoE). The UDM-Pro is an all-in-one UniFi OS Console with built-in controller, NVR HDD bay, and 10G SFP+. The UXG-Lite is ideal when you already have a controller and just need a gateway upgrade.
Is it a direct replacement for the USG?
Yes — the UXG-Lite is the recommended upgrade path from the original UniFi Security Gateway (USG), offering up to 10× the routing performance with the same compact form factor philosophy.
Does it support VPN?
Yes. WireGuard, L2TP, OpenVPN server/client, IPsec site-to-site VPN, and Teleport VPN are all supported — with no additional licensing fees.
Can I use it with a UniFi Dream Machine?
The UXG-Lite is designed to be managed by a UniFi Network controller. If you already have a UDM-Pro or UDM-SE acting as your controller, the UXG-Lite can be adopted and managed from it.
Does it have Wi-Fi?
No. The UXG-Lite is a wired gateway only. For Wi-Fi, pair it with UniFi Access Points (U6 Lite, U6 Pro, U6 Mesh, etc.) managed through the same UniFi Network controller.
