Description
Upgrade to 10 Gbps Wired Networking with the TP-Link TX401
The TP-Link TX401 is a 10 Gigabit PCI Express network adapter that delivers up to 10 Gbps wired connectivity — ten times faster than standard Gigabit Ethernet. Designed for desktop PCs, workstations, NAS devices, and servers, it's the straightforward upgrade for anyone who needs fast local network transfers, high-throughput NAS access, or low-latency data-intensive workflows.
Key Features
-
10 Gbps via 10GBase-T — up to 10× faster than standard Gigabit adapters for local data transfers and internet access
-
Backward Compatible — auto-negotiates between 10G / 1G / 100M, so it works with your existing network infrastructure
-
Includes 1.5m CAT6A Cable — rated for 10 Gbps; required to achieve full 10G speeds (standard Cat5e/Cat6 cables are limited to 1 Gbps)
-
Dual Bracket Design — includes both full-height and low-profile brackets for standard towers and compact/mini-ITX cases
-
Broad OS Support — compatible with Windows 10/8.1/8/7, Windows Server 2019/2016/2012 R2, and Linux
-
Ultra-Low Latency — ideal for latency-sensitive applications including NAS streaming, video editing, and virtualisation
-
PCIe Interface — installs into any available PCIe x4 or x8 slot
Typical Use Cases
- High-speed NAS access for video editing, backup, and media streaming
- Upgrading a desktop workstation to 10G for faster local file transfers
- Connecting a server or NVR to a 10G switch for high-throughput CCTV or surveillance storage
- Home lab and virtualisation environments requiring fast inter-host networking
- Gaming PCs and streaming rigs needing maximum wired bandwidth

Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need a 10G switch to use the TX401?
- To achieve 10 Gbps speeds, both ends of the connection must support 10G — so yes, you'll need a 10G-capable switch or a second device with a 10G port. However, the TX401 is backward compatible and will auto-negotiate to 1 Gbps or 100 Mbps on standard Gigabit switches.
- What cable do I need for 10 Gbps?
- You need CAT6A or CAT7 cable to achieve 10 Gbps over standard distances (up to 100m). A 1.5m CAT6A cable is included in the box. Standard Cat5e or Cat6 cables are limited to 1 Gbps.
- Is the TX401 compatible with my NAS?
- The TX401 is a PCIe card for desktop PCs, workstations, and servers. If your NAS has a PCIe expansion slot and runs a compatible OS (Windows or Linux), it may be compatible. Check your NAS manufacturer's documentation for PCIe card support.
- Will it fit in a small form factor or mini-ITX case?
- Yes. The TX401 includes a low-profile bracket for use in compact and mini tower cases, in addition to the standard full-height bracket.
- Does it work with Linux?
- Yes. The TX401 supports Linux. TP-Link provides drivers on their website for supported kernel versions. Check the TP-Link product page for the latest driver downloads.
