Description
Enterprise-Grade 24-Port PoE+ Smart Switch with Omada SDN Cloud Management
The TP-Link TL-SG2428P is a JetStream Layer 2 smart managed switch that delivers 24 Gigabit PoE+ ports, a 250W power budget, and four Gigabit SFP uplink slots in a rack-mountable 1U chassis. Fully integrated with TP-Link's Omada Software Defined Networking (SDN) platform, it supports zero-touch provisioning, centralised cloud management, and intelligent monitoring — making it the ideal core or distribution switch for commercial CCTV systems, enterprise Wi-Fi deployments, and multi-site business networks across Australia.
Key Features
-
24× Gigabit PoE+ Ports (802.3at/af): Power and connect IP cameras, wireless access points, VoIP phones, and other PoE/PoE+ devices at up to 30W per port across all 24 ports.
-
250W Total PoE Budget: Generous shared power budget supports large mixed deployments of PoE and PoE+ devices simultaneously.
-
4× Gigabit SFP Uplink Slots: Connect to fibre backbone switches or extend your network over long distances using single-mode or multi-mode SFP modules.
-
Omada SDN Integration: Centrally manage the switch alongside Omada access points and routers via the Omada cloud platform or local controller — with zero-touch provisioning (ZTP) for rapid remote deployment.
-
L2/L3/L4 QoS & IGMP Snooping: Prioritises video, voice, and critical application traffic to ensure smooth IP camera feeds, VoIP calls, and IPTV streams under heavy network load.
-
Static Routing: Routes internal traffic between VLANs without requiring a dedicated router, improving efficiency in segmented networks.
-
Robust Security Suite: IP-MAC-Port Binding, ACL, Port Security, DoS Defence, Storm Control, DHCP Snooping, 802.1X, and RADIUS Authentication protect the network from unauthorised access and attacks.
-
802.1Q VLAN: Segment camera traffic, staff devices, guest networks, and IoT devices onto separate logical networks for improved security and performance.
-
IPv6 Support: Dual IPv4/IPv6 stack with MLD Snooping and IPv6 Neighbour Discovery for future-ready network deployments.
-
56 Gbps Switching Capacity: Non-blocking switching fabric handles simultaneous high-bandwidth video streams from all 24 cameras without bottlenecks.
-
Rack Mountable (1U): Standard 19-inch rack form factor (440 × 220 × 44mm) for clean, professional installations in comms cabinets and server rooms.
Common Use Cases
- 24-camera IP CCTV systems for commercial buildings, warehouses, and retail centres
- Enterprise Wi-Fi deployments with multiple Omada access points managed from a single controller
- VoIP phone networks for medium-sized businesses
- Multi-VLAN network segmentation for security-conscious installations
- Multi-site business networks managed centrally via Omada cloud
- Distribution switch in multi-floor or multi-building network architectures

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Omada SDN and do I need a controller?
Omada SDN (Software Defined Networking) is TP-Link's centralised network management platform. The TL-SG2428P can be managed via the Omada cloud (no hardware controller required), a hardware Omada controller (OC300/OC200), or a software controller running on a local server or Raspberry Pi. For small deployments, the free Omada cloud is the simplest option.
What is Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP)?
ZTP allows the switch to be pre-configured in the Omada cloud before it arrives on site. Once connected to the internet at the installation location, it automatically downloads its configuration — eliminating the need for an on-site technician to manually configure each switch. Ideal for multi-site deployments and remote installations.
How many PoE cameras can I connect?
Up to 24 IP cameras can be connected via the PoE+ ports. For standard 802.3af cameras drawing around 10–12W each, the 250W budget comfortably supports a full 24-camera deployment. For higher-power PTZ or PoE+ cameras, calculate your total load to stay within the 250W budget.
Can I use this switch without Omada?
Yes. The TL-SG2428P can be managed via its local web interface without any Omada controller or cloud account. Omada integration is optional but recommended for multi-device or multi-site deployments where centralised management is beneficial.
Does it support VLAN and network segmentation?
Yes. The TL-SG2428P supports 802.1Q VLAN, Voice VLAN, and Private VLAN, allowing you to segment camera traffic, staff devices, guest Wi-Fi, and IoT devices onto separate logical networks for improved security and performance.
Is it rack mountable?
Yes. The TL-SG2428P is a standard 1U rack-mountable switch (440mm wide) and includes rack mounting brackets. It fits any standard 19-inch equipment rack or comms cabinet.
