Description
Power and Connect Remote IP Cameras Over a Single Fibre Strand up to 20km
The TP-Link TL-FC111PB-20 is a WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) BiDi media converter that bridges 10/100Mbps copper Ethernet and single-mode fibre over a single fibre strand — up to 20km. With a built-in 802.3af PoE output port, it can power an IP camera or other PoE device directly at the remote end of the fibre link, eliminating the need for a separate power source at the camera location. Ideal for long-distance CCTV deployments, inter-building links, and remote surveillance installations across Australia.
Important: The TL-FC111PB-20 (TX 1310nm / RX 1550nm) must be paired with a complementary TL-FC111PA-20 (TX 1550nm / RX 1310nm) at the opposite end of the fibre link. Two units of the same type will not establish a connection.
Key Features
-
802.3af PoE Output (RJ45 Port): Powers an IP camera, wireless access point, or other 802.3af-compliant device directly at the remote end — no separate power outlet or PoE injector required at the camera location.
-
WDM BiDi Single-Fibre Operation: Transmits and receives over a single strand of single-mode fibre using TX 1310nm and RX 1550nm wavelengths — halving fibre infrastructure costs compared to dual-fibre media converters.
-
20km Maximum Fibre Range: Extends your network over single-mode fibre up to 20km — ideal for inter-building links, remote camera locations, and campus-wide surveillance networks.
-
SC Simplex Fibre Connector: Standard SC simplex interface compatible with widely available single-mode fibre patch leads and infrastructure.
-
10/100Mbps Auto-Negotiation RJ45 Port: Connects to any standard Fast Ethernet switch, NVR, or network device via Cat5 or above copper Ethernet cable up to 100m.
-
Half/Full-Duplex Auto-Negotiation: Automatically negotiates the optimal duplex mode with connected devices for reliable, error-free data transfer.
-
Wide Operating Temperature (0–50°C): Suitable for comms cabinets and equipment rooms without dedicated air conditioning.
-
LED Status Indicators: PWR, Link/Act, and PoE LEDs for quick visual status monitoring during installation and troubleshooting.
Common Use Cases
- Powering and connecting a remote IP camera over a single fibre strand up to 20km — no power outlet needed at the camera end
- Inter-building CCTV links where copper Ethernet distance limits (100m) are exceeded
- Remote surveillance installations on large properties, farms, and industrial sites
- Extending a network to a remote building or outbuilding using existing single-mode fibre infrastructure
- Replacing dual-fibre media converters to halve fibre usage in conduit-constrained environments

Frequently Asked Questions
What unit do I need at the other end of the fibre link?
The TL-FC111PB-20 (TX 1310nm / RX 1550nm) must be paired with a TL-FC111PA-20 (TX 1550nm / RX 1310nm) at the opposite end. Using two TL-FC111PB-20 units on the same link will not work — the wavelengths must be complementary.
Does the PoE output power the remote camera or the local switch?
The 802.3af PoE output is on the RJ45 port of the TL-FC111PB-20. This means the unit at the remote end (near the camera) provides PoE power to the connected IP camera or device. The unit at the local end (near the switch) connects to a standard non-PoE switch port via copper Ethernet.
What fibre cable is required?
The TL-FC111PB-20 requires 9/125μm single-mode fibre with an SC simplex connector. It is not compatible with multi-mode fibre (OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4) or SC duplex patch leads. Ensure your fibre infrastructure is single-mode before purchasing.
Can I use this to connect a camera more than 100m away without running power?
Yes — this is the primary use case. Place the TL-FC111PA-20 at the switch end (connected to your NVR or switch via copper Ethernet), run a single-mode fibre strand to the camera location, and connect the TL-FC111PB-20 at the camera end. The TL-FC111PB-20 will power the camera via its PoE RJ45 port — no power outlet needed at the camera location.
What is the maximum PoE power output?
The TL-FC111PB-20 provides 802.3af PoE output, which delivers up to 15.4W to the connected device. This is sufficient for most standard IP cameras and compact wireless access points. For devices requiring more than 15.4W (802.3at PoE+), a different solution is required.
Is this suitable for outdoor camera installations?
The media converter itself is rated for indoor use (0–50°C) and should be installed in a weatherproof enclosure or indoor location. The connected IP camera can be outdoor-rated. For the fibre run, use outdoor-rated single-mode fibre cable appropriate for your installation environment.
