Will the RE655BE work with my existing non-Wi-Fi 7 router?
Yes. The RE655BE is universally compatible with any Wi-Fi router or gateway regardless of brand or Wi-Fi generation. When connected to a non-Wi-Fi 7 router, the RE655BE will extend your existing network’s signal while still offering Wi-Fi 7 connections to Wi-Fi 7-capable client devices in the extended coverage area. All other devices connect at their native Wi-Fi standard as normal.
What is the difference between Range Extender mode and Access Point mode?
In Range Extender mode, the RE655BE connects wirelessly to your existing router and rebroadcasts the signal to extend coverage — no Ethernet cable required. In Access Point mode, the RE655BE connects to your router via the 2.5G Ethernet port and creates a new wireless coverage zone with a wired backhaul, which delivers better performance and lower latency than a wireless backhaul. Access Point mode is recommended where an Ethernet cable run is practical.
Where should I place the RE655BE for best results?
Place the RE655BE approximately halfway between your router and the area with poor Wi-Fi coverage. It must be within range of your router’s existing Wi-Fi signal to extend it effectively. The on-device LED indicator shows signal strength — aim for a solid LED (not flashing) to confirm a strong connection to your router before moving it to its final location.
Does the RE655BE create a separate Wi-Fi network name (SSID)?
By default, the RE655BE can extend your existing network under the same SSID, allowing your devices to roam seamlessly between your router and the extender. It can also be configured to broadcast a separate SSID if preferred, via the Tether app or web interface.
Can I use the 2.5G Ethernet port to connect a wired device?
Yes. The RE655BE’s 2.5G Ethernet port can be used to connect a wired device — such as a gaming console, smart TV, desktop PC, or NAS — in the extended coverage area, providing a fast, stable wired connection without needing a nearby network port. Note that in Access Point mode, this port is used for the wired uplink to your router and is not available for a client device simultaneously.
