Description
TP-Link Omada ES206X-M2 6-Port 2.5G/10G Smart Managed Switch
Overview
The TP-Link Omada ES206X-M2 is a compact, high-performance multi-gigabit smart managed switch designed for small-to-medium business (SMB) networks that demand faster-than-gigabit speeds without the cost of a full 10G infrastructure rollout. With four 2.5G RJ45 ports and two 10G SFP+ uplink slots, it delivers the bandwidth headroom modern Wi-Fi 6/6E access points, NAS devices, and servers require — all managed through the Omada SDN platform.
Key Features
-
4× 2.5G RJ45 Ports — Multi-gigabit copper ports for connecting Wi-Fi 6/6E APs, NAS, and workstations over standard Cat5e/Cat6 cabling
-
2× 10G SFP+ Uplink Ports — High-speed fibre or DAC uplinks for aggregation or server connectivity
-
Omada SDN Integration — Centralised cloud or on-premises management via Omada Controller, app, or web GUI
-
Layer 2+ Smart Managed — Full VLAN, QoS, RSTP, IGMP Snooping, and port mirroring support
-
Fanless Design — Silent operation ideal for office, retail, and noise-sensitive environments
-
Compact Desktop Form Factor — Easy to deploy on a desk, shelf, or wall-mount bracket (sold separately)
-
IPv6 Support — Future-ready networking for modern infrastructure
-
Access Control Lists (ACL) — Granular traffic filtering for improved network security
Who Is It For?
The ES206X-M2 suits a wide range of deployment scenarios:
-
SMB Offices — Aggregate multiple Wi-Fi 6 access points and provide multi-gig uplinks to a core switch or router
-
Home Labs & Power Users — Connect NAS, gaming PCs, and media servers at 2.5G speeds over existing Cat5e cabling
-
Retail & Hospitality — Silent fanless operation keeps it unobtrusive in customer-facing environments
-
Education & Healthcare — VLAN segmentation and ACL support help enforce network security policies
-
AV & Surveillance — High throughput for IP cameras and video streaming without bottlenecks

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the ES206X-M2 require an Omada Controller to function?
No. It operates as a standalone smart managed switch via its web GUI or CLI. The Omada Controller (hardware or software) is optional but unlocks centralised multi-site management, zero-touch provisioning, and cloud access.
Can I use standard Cat5e cabling for the 2.5G ports?
Yes. The 2.5G RJ45 ports are backward compatible and will run at 2.5G speeds over Cat5e cabling up to 100 metres — no need to re-cable your existing infrastructure.
What SFP+ modules are compatible with the 10G uplink ports?
The SFP+ ports support standard 10G SFP+ modules including TP-Link's own TL-SM5110-SR (multimode fibre), TL-SM5110-LR (single-mode fibre), and TL-SM5310-T (DAC cable). Third-party modules may also be compatible.
Is the ES206X-M2 suitable for PoE devices?
No. The ES206X-M2 does not support Power over Ethernet (PoE). If you need to power access points or IP cameras, consider a TP-Link Omada PoE switch such as the TL-SG2210MP or SG3428MP.
Does it support stacking?
The ES206X-M2 does not support hardware stacking. However, multiple units can be managed together under a single Omada Controller for unified visibility and configuration.
What is the warranty period in Australia?
TP-Link provides a 3-year limited warranty for the ES206X-M2 in Australia.
