Do I need Wi-Fi 7 client devices to benefit from the EAP772?
No — the EAP772 is fully backwards compatible with Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 5, and older clients. Existing devices will connect on the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bands as normal. Wi-Fi 7 features such as MLO and 320 MHz channels are only available to Wi-Fi 7 client devices, but all clients benefit from the improved network efficiency and reduced congestion the EAP772 provides.
Is the 6 GHz band available in Australia?
Yes. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has approved the 6 GHz band for Wi-Fi use in Australia. The EAP772 is fully legal to operate on 6 GHz in Australia.
Does it require a PoE+ switch?
Yes. The EAP772 requires 802.3at PoE+ (not standard 802.3af PoE) due to its higher power draw of up to 25.5 W across three radio bands. Ensure your switch or injector supports PoE+ on the port connected to the EAP772.
Does the 2.5 Gbps uplink require Cat6A cabling?
Cat6A is recommended for 2.5 Gbps runs over longer distances (up to 100 m). Standard Cat6 cable can support 2.5 Gbps at shorter runs (typically up to 50–70 m depending on installation quality). Cat5e is not recommended for multi-gig speeds.
Can I manage the EAP772 without an Omada Controller?
Yes — the EAP772 supports standalone mode via the Omada App for basic single-AP configuration. For multi-AP deployments with seamless roaming, guest portals, VLAN management, and centralised policy control, an Omada Controller (hardware, software, or cloud-based) is strongly recommended.
What is Multi-Link Operation (MLO) and why does it matter?
MLO is a key Wi-Fi 7 feature that allows a device to simultaneously send and receive data across multiple frequency bands (e.g. 5 GHz and 6 GHz at the same time). This significantly reduces latency, improves reliability, and increases throughput compared to Wi-Fi 6E, where a device can only use one band at a time. MLO requires both the access point and the client device to support Wi-Fi 7.
