No. The EAP670 can be managed as a standalone access point via its built-in web interface without any controller. An Omada controller (software, cloud, or hardware OC200/OC300) is optional and enables centralised management of multiple EAPs across one or more sites.
Why does the EAP670 have a 2.5 Gigabit uplink port?
The 2.5G uplink prevents the network port from becoming a bottleneck in high-density deployments where many users are simultaneously transferring data. To take advantage of 2.5G speeds, your PoE switch or injector must also support 2.5GbE. Standard Gigabit switches will negotiate to 1Gbps.
Can I power the EAP670 without a PoE switch?
Yes. A 12V/1.5A DC power adapter is included in the box, allowing installation in locations without a PoE switch. Alternatively, a TP-Link PoE injector (such as the TL-POE160S) can be used to power the EAP670 via a standard Ethernet cable.
