Description
One Device. Modem, Router, and Whole-Home Mesh Wi-Fi 6 — All in One
The TP-Link Deco X73-DSL is a whole-home Wi-Fi 6 mesh system with a built-in VDSL2 modem, purpose-built for Australian NBN FTTN and FTTB connections. It replaces your separate modem and router in a single unit, delivering AX5400 wireless speeds across every room while supporting downstream speeds up to 350 Mbps via VDSL2 Profile 35b. Expand coverage at any time by adding more Deco nodes to the mesh.
Key Features
-
Built-in VDSL2 Modem — Connects directly to your phone line for NBN FTTN and FTTB services; supports Profile 35b with downstream speeds up to 350 Mbps. Also compatible with ADSL and ADSL2+
-
AX5400 Wi-Fi 6 — 4804 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz for fast, low-latency wireless across all your devices
-
Seamless Mesh Roaming — Automatically hands your device to the strongest Deco node as you move through your home, with no drop in connection
-
4× Gigabit Ethernet Ports — Flexible WAN/LAN configuration for wired devices including smart TVs, NVRs, gaming consoles, and desktop PCs
-
2× FXS Ports + 1× DSL Port — Connect up to two standard analogue phones directly without a separate VoIP adapter

OFDMA & MU-MIMO — Serves multiple devices simultaneously with reduced latency, ideal for busy households
-
Beamforming — Focuses wireless signal toward connected clients to extend effective range and improve throughput
-
4× Internal Antennas — Signal-boosting array covers more directions and larger areas for consistent whole-home coverage
-
TP-Link HomeShield — Real-time IoT device protection, parental controls with content filtering and screen time scheduling, and comprehensive network usage reports
-
Optional Ethernet Backhaul — Wire Deco units together for maximum mesh performance and dedicated backhaul bandwidth
-
Flexible Working Modes — DSL modem router, standard router, or access point to suit your existing setup
-
Deco App — Simple setup and ongoing management from your iOS or Android device

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Deco X73-DSL compatible with Australian NBN FTTN and FTTB services?
Yes. The built-in VDSL2 modem connects directly to your phone line and is fully compatible with NBN FTTN (Fibre to the Node) and FTTB (Fibre to the Building) connection types. It also supports legacy ADSL and ADSL2+ services.
Do I still need a separate modem?
No. The Deco X73-DSL replaces both your existing modem and router in a single unit, simplifying your setup and reducing the number of devices in your home.
Can I keep my existing landline phone?
The Deco X73-DSL includes two FXS ports for connecting standard analogue phones. Whether you can retain your existing number depends on your NBN provider’s VoIP service — confirm with your ISP before purchasing if landline continuity is important.
Can I expand coverage beyond 270 m²?
Yes. Additional Deco nodes (such as the Deco X50 or Deco XE75) connect to the X73-DSL via wireless mesh or optional Ethernet backhaul to extend coverage throughout larger homes.
What is TP-Link HomeShield?
HomeShield is TP-Link’s built-in network security suite offering real-time IoT device protection, parental controls with content filtering and screen time limits, and detailed network usage reports. Basic features are free; HomeShield Pro unlocks advanced capabilities via subscription.
Does it support Ethernet backhaul between Deco units?
Yes. Running Ethernet cable between Deco units enables wired backhaul, which frees up wireless bandwidth for client devices and significantly improves overall mesh performance.
What NBN connection types does it NOT support?
The Deco X73-DSL is not compatible with NBN FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), FTTC (Fibre to the Curb), HFC (cable), or Fixed Wireless connections. For those connection types, you will need a standard router without a built-in DSL modem.
