No — the GE800 is fully backwards compatible with Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 5, and older devices. All existing devices connect normally on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. Wi-Fi 7 features such as MLO, 320 MHz channels, and 4K-QAM are only available when connecting with a Wi-Fi 7 client device, but all users benefit from the GE800’s improved network management and reduced congestion.
Is the 6 GHz band available in Australia?
Yes. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has approved the 6 GHz band for Wi-Fi use in Australia. The Archer GE800 is fully compliant and legal to operate on 6 GHz in Australia.

Can I use the GE800 as part of a mesh network?
The Archer GE800 is a standalone router and is not part of the Deco mesh ecosystem. For whole-home mesh coverage, consider pairing it with a compatible TP-Link EasyMesh access point, or use a Deco mesh system as the primary router instead.
What cabling do I need for the 2.5 Gbps LAN ports?
Standard Cat5e cable supports 2.5 Gbps at shorter distances (up to approximately 50 m). Cat6 or Cat6A is recommended for longer runs or for future-proofing your home cabling. Any existing Cat5e or Cat6 patch cables you already have will work fine for typical in-room connections.
