Axis A9188 Network I/O Relay Module (0820-001)

Description

NDAA Compliant • Network I/O Relay Module

AXIS A9188 (0820-001) — Australian Stock & 5-Year Warranty

The AXIS A9188 Network I/O Relay Module is an intelligent, network-connected I/O expander that adds 8 configurable I/Os with supervised inputs and 8 Form C relays to any Axis system. Built on an open platform with the VAPIX open API, it integrates tightly with the AXIS A1001 Network Door Controller and third-party facility systems such as elevator floor management and HVAC. It also supplies 12 V DC and 24 V DC power out to connected field devices, so it can extend the functionality of virtually any Axis product that needs extra inputs, outputs or relays.

DIGITAL I/O
8x Configurable
RELAYS
8x Form C
POWER INPUT
PoE+ or 8–28 V DC
OPEN API
VAPIX & ACAP

Supervised inputs for genuine line security

Unlike a basic relay board, every one of the eight I/Os on the A9188 can be set as a standard input, a supervised input with analog read-out, or an output. Supervised inputs monitor the 0–12 V range across four states, so the module can tell the difference between a normal loop, an alarm, a cut cable and a shorted cable. Combined with a dedicated tamper input and a 30,000-event FIFO log, that makes the A9188 suitable for access control and alarm interfaces where line integrity actually matters.

Elevator & floor management

Eight Form C relays rated to 1 A at 48 V DC map neatly onto elevator floor buttons, letting an AXIS A1001 door controller restrict which levels a credential can reach.

Powers your field devices

Dual 12 V DC and 24 V DC outputs feed locks, sensors and sounders directly — up to 12 W shared when running on PoE Class 4 or DC input, or 3.6 W on PoE Class 3.

Open integration

VAPIX open API, AXIS Video Hosting System with One-Click Connection, and AXIS Camera Application Platform support for installing third-party edge applications.

Hardened networking

HTTPS encryption, IEEE 802.1X network access control, IP address filtering and digest authentication, plus SNMPv1/v2c/v3 and IPv6 for enterprise deployment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many inputs, outputs and relays does the A9188 have?

Eight I/O terminals, each individually configurable as a digital input, a supervised input with analog read-out, or a digital output — plus eight separate Form C relays with NO/NC contacts.

What is a supervised input and why does it matter?

A supervised input monitors the resistance of the alarm loop between 0 and 12 V across four states. That lets the module report a cut or shorted cable as a fault rather than silently failing, which is essential for security-grade alarm and door contact wiring.

How is the A9188 powered?

Either by Power over Ethernet — IEEE 802.3af Type 1 Class 3 or IEEE 802.3at Type 2 Class 4 (PoE+) — or from an 8–28 V DC supply drawing up to 26 W.

Can it power connected devices?

Yes. It provides both 12 V DC and 24 V DC outputs. The maximum power out is shared between the two rails: 3.6 W on PoE Class 3, or 12 W on PoE Class 4 or DC input.

What can the relays switch?

Each of the eight Form C relays is rated to a maximum of 1 A at 48 V DC. In outdoor installations using the AXIS T98A15-VE cabinet the maximum allowed voltage is 30 V DC.

Does it work with the AXIS A1001 Door Controller?

Yes — the A9188 is designed for a high level of integration with the AXIS A1001 Network Door Controller, and is commonly used for elevator floor management. It also works with AXIS Camera Station, AXIS Video Hosting System and third-party partner software.

Can I integrate it with my own software?

Yes. Axis publishes an open API including VAPIX, and the module supports the AXIS Camera Application Platform so third-party edge applications can be installed directly on the device.

Can the A9188 be installed outdoors?

Not on its own. The module is rated for -30 °C to 55 °C, but outdoor installation requires the AXIS T98A15-VE Surveillance Cabinet, which also caps the maximum relay voltage at 30 V DC.

What is in the box?

The A9188 ships with a connector kit, a jumper kit, a TORX TR20 key and an installation guide. Optional extras include the AXIS T8133 Midspan 30 W, AXIS T8129 PoE Extender and AXIS T8007 PS24 power supply.
