Does the UDM-Pro require a UniFi subscription?
No. UniFi Network and UniFi Protect run fully locally on the UDM-Pro. There are no monthly fees or cloud subscriptions required for full functionality.
Can the UDM-Pro run UniFi Protect for cameras?
Yes. Install a 3.5″ HDD in the built-in bay and the UDM-Pro acts as a UniFi Protect NVR — supporting UniFi cameras for local recording and AI detection.
What is the difference between the UDM-Pro and UDM-SE?
The UDM-SE adds 8 × built-in PoE ports (allowing direct camera and AP power), a 2.5 GbE RJ45 WAN port, and an internal M.2 storage option. The UDM-Pro has no built-in PoE but offers dual 10G SFP+ and is well suited to pure routing/gateway and NVR deployments.
Does it support dual-WAN failover?
Yes. The UDM-Pro supports dual-WAN failover and load balancing across the Gigabit RJ45 WAN and 10G SFP+ WAN ports.
What hard drive do I need for UniFi Protect?
Any compatible 3.5″ SATA HDD. Ubiquiti recommends surveillance-grade drives (e.g. WD Purple or Seagate SkyHawk) for 24/7 recording reliability.
Can I view cameras remotely?
Yes. The UniFi Protect app supports remote viewing via the UniFi cloud relay — no port forwarding required. Remote access is free with a UniFi account.
