Frequently Asked Questions
Does the TD21 require existing doorbell wiring?
Yes. The Tapo TD21 is a wired doorbell that requires an existing 8–24 V AC doorbell circuit for power. If your home does not have existing doorbell wiring, a licensed electrician can install a suitable circuit, or consider a battery-powered doorbell alternative.
Is a subscription required to use the TD21?
No. The TD21 works fully without a subscription. Live view, push notifications, and local microSD recording are all free. Tapo Care cloud storage is an optional paid add-on for off-device backup and extended recording history.
What is the difference between colour night vision and standard infrared night vision?
Standard infrared night vision produces black-and-white footage in low light. The TD21’s full-colour night vision uses built-in spotlight LEDs to illuminate the scene in colour, making it easier to identify clothing colours, vehicle colours, and other details that are lost in black-and-white footage.
Does the TD21 work with my existing mechanical chime?
The TD21 includes a plug-in electronic chime. Compatibility with existing mechanical chimes varies — refer to the TP-Link AU installation guide or contact TP-Link AU support to confirm compatibility with your specific chime unit.
What Wi-Fi frequency does the TD21 support?
The TD21 supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only (802.11b/g/n). It is not compatible with 5 GHz networks. Ensure your router broadcasts a 2.4 GHz network during setup.
Is the TD21 suitable for outdoor installation in Australia?
Yes. The TD21 carries an IP65 weather-resistance rating and an operating temperature range of −20 °C to +50 °C, making it suitable for outdoor installation across Australian climates including coastal, tropical, and arid environments.
Does CCTV Guru ship the TD21 Australia-wide?
Yes. We ship to all states and territories across Australia, including metro and regional areas, with fast dispatch from our Australian warehouse.
