What is Wi-Fi 7 and how is it better than Wi-Fi 6E?
Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) builds on Wi-Fi 6E by introducing Multi-Link Operation (MLO), which allows devices to simultaneously transmit and receive data across multiple bands at once. This results in significantly lower latency, higher peak throughput, and more reliable connections compared to Wi-Fi 6E, which can only use one band at a time. Wi-Fi 7 also introduces 4K-QAM modulation and 320 MHz channel bandwidth on the 6 GHz band for even greater speeds.
Do I need a Wi-Fi 7 device to benefit from the Deco BE68?
No. The Deco BE68 is fully backwards compatible with Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 5, and older Wi-Fi standards. All your existing devices will connect and work normally. Wi-Fi 7 features such as MLO are only available to Wi-Fi 7-compatible client devices, but all devices benefit from the improved network management and reduced congestion the BE68 provides.
Will the Deco BE68 work with my Australian NBN connection?
Yes. The Deco BE68 is compatible with all major Australian NBN connection types including FTTP, FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, and HFC. The 2.5G WAN port on the primary Deco unit ensures you won’t be bottlenecked on NBN 1000 or full-fibre plans.
How does the dedicated 6 GHz backhaul work?
The Deco BE68 reserves the 6 GHz band exclusively for wireless communication between the two Deco units (backhaul). This means the high-speed inter-unit traffic does not compete with your devices on the 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz bands, resulting in significantly better real-world performance compared to mesh systems that share backhaul and client traffic on the same band.
Can I add more Deco units to expand coverage?
Yes. The Deco system is fully expandable. You can add additional Deco BE68 units or compatible Deco models at any time through the Deco app to extend coverage to additional areas of your home or property.
Does the Deco BE68 replace my existing modem?
The Deco BE68 functions as a router and mesh Wi-Fi system but does not include a built-in modem. For NBN connections that require a modem (such as FTTN or FTTB), you will need to keep your existing modem and connect the primary Deco unit to it via Ethernet. For FTTP connections, the Deco BE68 can connect directly to the NBN connection box.
