Why Choose the Turbo HD DVR Path over a Pure IP NVR

An AcuSense Turbo HD DVR is the right recorder for one specific scenario: you have (or plan to install) analogue cameras over coax, and you want modern AI on top. Analogue is still the cheapest way to run video signal over long distances — no PoE budget to manage, no network segmentation to plan, no VLAN debugging. Bring an existing analogue install into 2026 by putting an AcuSense DVR at the head-end. Or spec a hybrid install with the coax cameras where the wiring is easy, and IP cameras where the extra features (ColorVu, Live-Guard) actually matter.

5-Signal Hybrid Input

Every BNC input auto-detects and adapts to HDTVI, AHD, HDCVI, CVBS or IP — no jumpers, no per-channel configuration. Mix camera brands and standards freely across the 16 analogue channels; add up to 32 IP cameras on top over Gigabit Ethernet.

Motion Detection 2.0 with Human + Vehicle Filter

Hikvision's deep-learning motion detection runs by default on all 16 analogue channels, classifying every event as human, vehicle or "other" (leaves, lights, rain). Cuts false alarms by ~90% vs a legacy DVR while giving you searchable metadata by object type.

Perimeter Protection + Face Recognition

Enable Perimeter Protection on up to 8 channels (line crossing, intrusion, region entry / exit — human + vehicle filtered) and Face Recognition on up to 4 channels against a face picture library of up to 16 libraries with picture comparison alarms.

AcuSearch — Fast Post-Incident Review

8-channel AcuSearch lets you jump through recorded footage by object type or event class — find every vehicle that entered a driveway, every face captured at a gate, every perimeter breach event on a specific channel, in a fraction of the time a linear timeline scrub takes.

See Hikvision AcuSense in Action

AcuSense is the on-device deep-learning engine that classifies every motion event as human, vehicle or "other" and filters out the false alarms. The same AI runs on this DVR (recording side) as on Hikvision's current-generation cameras.

Recording, Encoding & Playback

H.265 Pro+ Compression

H.265 Pro+ significantly reduces the storage footprint vs H.264 or standard H.265 while preserving image quality. Enable it per-channel to double the retention on the same HDD without touching bitrate or resolution.

Recording Up to 8 MP

Records each analogue channel at its native resolution up to 8 MP / 4K (at 8 fps) or 5 MP / 3K (at 12 fps) or 4 MP (at 15 fps) or 1080p / 720p at full frame rate. Match the recording profile to what each camera actually needs.

2 SATA HDD Bays · Up to 24 TB

Two SATA HDD bays, each accepting up to 12 TB drives24 TB maximum onboard storage. Use dual drives for RAID / mirroring at the site, or single-drive for cost-optimised retention.

4K HDMI + VGA Simultaneous Output

Local monitor output supports 4K (3840 × 2160) @ 30 Hz HDMI and 1080p VGA simultaneously — useful for a wall-mounted 4K spot monitor plus an operator VGA workstation running the same live view.

iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT (DVR) vs DS-7616NI-M2/16P (IP NVR) — Which Recorder Path?

If you're starting from scratch with all new IP cameras, an IP NVR like the DS-7616NI-M2/16P is the simpler pick — PoE built-in, no analogue cabling to plan, current-generation feature set. If you have existing analogue coax you want to keep, or you're adding cameras to a site with long cable runs where new Cat 6 isn't practical, the Turbo HD DVR is the right recorder. This DVR also hybrid-supports up to 32 IP cameras on top of the 16 analogue channels — so you're not locked out of IP.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a DVR and an NVR?

A DVR (Digital Video Recorder) records from analogue cameras connected by coaxial (BNC) cable. An NVR (Network Video Recorder) records from IP cameras over Ethernet. This unit is a hybrid DVR — it does both: 16 analogue BNC inputs + up to 32 IP channels over Gigabit.

Will it work with my existing analogue cameras?

Almost certainly yes. The DVR's BNC inputs are 5-signal auto-detect — they'll adapt to HDTVI, AHD, HDCVI or CVBS automatically. If your existing cameras use any of those four standards (nearly all analogue cameras from the last decade do), plug them in and they'll work.

Does AcuSense work on all cameras?

The AcuSense AI runs on the DVR itself (Motion Detection 2.0 with human/vehicle classification) on all 16 analogue channels. Perimeter Protection is limited to 8 channels, Face Recognition to 4 channels. The AI works with any analogue camera plugged in — it doesn't require an AcuSense-branded camera.

How much recording storage do I need?

At 4 MP @ 15 fps H.265+ per channel, 16 channels recording 24/7 for 1 month uses roughly 10-14 TB. With 24 TB total capacity (two 12 TB drives), you can retain 6-8 weeks of continuous recording or 3-4 months on motion-only recording. Ask us for a sizing estimate for your specific setup.

Can I mix analogue and IP cameras?

Yes — that's the point of a hybrid DVR. You can run any combination of the 16 analogue inputs and up to 32 IP inputs simultaneously. Common install pattern: existing coax cameras kept on the analogue side, new outdoor cameras added as IP where you want ColorVu or Live-Guard features.

Does the DVR have built-in PoE for IP cameras?

No — unlike an NVR with built-in PoE ports, this DVR only has a single Gigabit uplink. If you're running IP cameras, plug them into a separate PoE switch on the same network. The DVR will discover and add them via ONVIF or Hik-Connect.

What's the audio capability?

1 line-in audio (RCA), 1 line-out audio (RCA), 1 two-way audio channel. Plus audio-over-coax on all 16 HDTVI channels if your cameras support it — no separate audio cable needed for HDTVI cameras with a built-in mic.

Is this NDAA Section 889 compliant?

No. Hikvision is not NDAA Section 889 compliant. For NDAA-required projects (typically US federally-funded), contact our team for alternatives. For Australian commercial, retail, hospitality, school, body-corporate and most state-government projects without an NDAA contractual requirement, this recorder is freely usable.

Fits any 3.5" SATA HDD up to 12 TB per bay. Use surveillance-grade drives (WD Purple, Seagate SkyHawk) for 24/7 recording duty. Two bays for RAID 1 mirroring or dual-drive parallel recording.

    Hikvision Turbo HD Analogue Cameras

Compatible with any Hikvision Turbo HD (HDTVI) analogue camera — 5 MP, 4 MP, 3K, 8 MP, 1080p. Also accepts other-brand AHD, HDCVI and legacy CVBS analogue cameras via the 5-signal auto-detect BNC inputs.

Hikvision IP Cameras (up to 32)

Add up to 32 IP camera channels over the Gigabit Ethernet — modern G3 turrets, DeepinView cameras, Value PTZs, TandemVu — any Hikvision IP camera Hik-Connect supports.

External PoE Switch (for IP cameras)

This DVR does not have built-in PoE. Add a separate PoE switch if you're running IP cameras — sized to your channel count and PoE budget. Talk to us if you're not sure what capacity you need.
