AcuSense is the on-camera deep-learning engine that makes this PTZ useful instead of noisy — it classifies every motion event as human, vehicle, or "other" (foliage, possums, headlight glare) and filters out the false alarms. Hikvision's official AcuSense demo shows how it works on the same AI engine that powers this Wi-Fi Value Series PTZ.
Why Choose the Wi-Fi DS-2DE2A404IWG1-E/W
The "/W" suffix adds integrated 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi to Hikvision's most affordable PTZ. The use-case is install flexibility: residential sites where pulling Cat 6 across the ceiling isn't practical, rental properties where you can't run cable through walls, heritage buildings with restrictions, fence-corner posts and garden sheds where data cable would need a long underground trench. Wi-Fi gets the PTZ on-line without a network cable.
Integrated 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
IEEE 802.11b/g/n, 20/40 MHz channel bandwidth, WPA / WPA2 / WPA-PSK / WPA2-PSK encryption. Pairs to your existing 2.4 GHz home or office Wi-Fi — no separate access point needed.
4× Optical Zoom · 2.8-12 mm F1.8
Motorised wide-to-tele: 99.4° wide (whole driveway / shopfront) to 32.8° tele (face at the gate). 16× digital on top. ~2 s zoom transit.
AcuSense — Real Notifications
On-camera deep learning filters every motion event as human, vehicle or other. Only human/vehicle classifications trigger alerts — ~90 % fewer false alarms vs motion-only cameras.
PoE 802.3af Fallback Still Supported
Wi-Fi is the install convenience — but the camera also supports PoE 802.3af and 12 VDC wired. If your network changes or Wi-Fi range becomes a problem, you can revert to wired without buying a new camera.
Honest Wi-Fi Positioning — Read This Before You Buy
Wi-Fi is genuinely useful — but it's not magic, and we'd rather set expectations correctly up front than have you surprised on install day. Three things to know:
You Still Need a Power Cable
Wi-Fi handles data only — it can't deliver power. The camera draws up to 11.2 W and needs a 12 VDC supply or a PoE injector at the install location. "Wi-Fi" doesn't mean wireless — it means no data cable. You'll still run a single power cable to the camera location, or place a power-over-Ethernet injector nearby. Plan for it.
2.4 GHz Only — Plan for Bandwidth
The camera supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only (no 5 GHz). 2.4 GHz reaches further through walls but is more congested (microwaves, baby monitors, IoT devices all share the band) and has lower peak throughput than 5 GHz. A 4 MP @ 25 fps stream uses ~4-8 Mbps — typically fine on 802.11n 2.4 GHz, but place the camera within reasonable range of your router (under ~15 m through one wall).
Initial Pairing Needs Ethernet
Per the datasheet: "Wi-Fi connection with Hik-Connect directly is not possible." Translation: you can't pair the camera to Wi-Fi using only the Hik-Connect mobile app. Initial setup requires a one-time Ethernet connection (or Hikvision's SADP / iVMS-4200 desktop tools) to enter the Wi-Fi credentials. After that, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable and the camera operates over Wi-Fi normally.
Wired Is Still Better If You Can Run Cable
If running a Cat 6 cable to the install point is practical, choose the wired-only DS-2DE2A404IWG1-E variant instead — slightly cheaper, no Wi-Fi setup, single PoE cable handles both power and data, no Wi-Fi range or congestion concerns. The Wi-Fi /W variant exists for installs where cable just isn't feasible.

DS-2DE2A404IWG1-E/W (Wi-Fi) vs DS-2DE2A404IWG1-E (Wired) — Should You Pay for Wi-Fi?
Both variants are physically identical — same sensor, same lens, same chassis, same AcuSense AI, same audio, same IR. The only difference is the integrated 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi radio on the /W variant. Pick based on whether running a Cat 6 cable to the install point is practical: yes → save money with the wired-only version; no → pay for the Wi-Fi flexibility.

Recording NVRs — Wi-Fi Camera Pairs with Any Hikvision NVR
The DS-2DE2A404IWG1-E/W appears on your Hikvision NVR as a standard IP camera over the network, regardless of whether it's connected by Wi-Fi or Ethernet. The NVR doesn't need to know it's a Wi-Fi camera — it just sees an ONVIF Profile S / G / T device on the LAN. The Hikvision M-Series NVRs are the right partner for most installs: 4K HDMI output, H.265+ compression, plug-and-play, and pricing that keeps a complete system within reach. Step up to AcuSeek / DeepinMind only when you need natural-language AI search.
DS-7604NI-M1/4P — 4CH · 4 PoE · Budget Pick
Four-channel M-Series NVR with 4 built-in PoE ports, 4K HDMI output, single HDD bay (up to 10 TB). The Wi-Fi camera joins via your home / office network rather than the NVR's PoE port — leaves all 4 PoE ports free for additional wired fixed cameras. View DS-7604NI-M1/4P →
DS-7608NI-M2/8P — 8CH · 8 PoE · 2 HDD Bay
Eight-channel M-Series NVR with 8 built-in PoE ports, 4K HDMI output, two HDD bays (up to 20 TB). Sweet spot for small business, retail, hospitality and larger homes — Wi-Fi PTZ at the awkward install spot, wired fixed cameras everywhere else. View DS-7608NI-M2/8P →
DS-7616NI-M2/16P — 16CH · 16 PoE · 2 HDD Bay
Sixteen channels at full PoE, 160 Mbps M-Series engine for stutter-free 4K playback. Standard pairing for larger homes, body-corporate sites, schools and multi-shop installs running multiple Value PTZs across a campus. View DS-7616NI-M2/16P →

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I still need a cable if I'm using Wi-Fi?
Yes — but only a power cable, not a data cable. The camera draws up to 11.2 W and Wi-Fi can't deliver power. You'll either run a 12 VDC cable from a power adapter, or place a PoE injector at the install location. Wi-Fi gets you out of running Cat 6 across ceilings, but doesn't eliminate the cable entirely.
How do I pair the camera to my Wi-Fi?
Initial Wi-Fi setup requires a one-time Ethernet connection. Plug the camera into your router or switch with a Cat 5e/6 cable, use Hikvision's SADP tool or iVMS-4200 on a Windows / Mac computer to enter your Wi-Fi SSID and password, then unplug the Ethernet cable — the camera will reconnect over Wi-Fi. You can't currently pair Wi-Fi directly from the Hik-Connect mobile app.
Will the camera work on 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
No — this camera supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only (IEEE 802.11b/g/n). If your router is dual-band, make sure 2.4 GHz is enabled and that your network's SSID is reachable on the 2.4 GHz band where the camera will sit. Most home and office routers run both 2.4 and 5 GHz automatically.
How far from the router can the camera be?
2.4 GHz Wi-Fi typically reaches ~15 m through one wall or up to ~30 m with line-of-sight. The camera streams at ~4-8 Mbps which is comfortable for 802.11n 2.4 GHz at reasonable signal strength. For longer-distance installs or installs with multiple walls between camera and router, add a Wi-Fi mesh node or access point closer to the camera.
Why choose Wi-Fi vs the wired-only version?
Choose Wi-Fi (/W) for install flexibility: apartments, rentals, heritage buildings, fence corners, garden sheds, undercover carports — any site where running a Cat 6 data cable would mean punching through walls or trenching. Choose the wired-only (/E) for install simplicity: typical home, shopfront or small office where a single PoE cable from the NVR is straightforward. The wired version is slightly cheaper and has no Wi-Fi setup at all.
Will the Wi-Fi stream record to my Hikvision NVR?
Yes. The Wi-Fi PTZ appears on your NVR as a standard ONVIF / ISAPI IP camera on the LAN — the NVR doesn't distinguish Wi-Fi from Ethernet. Add it using its IP address as you would any other camera, then schedule recording, motion detection and AcuSense alarms normally.
Can I install this within 2 km of the coast?
Honestly — not directly exposed. This camera does not have anti-corrosion housing (no -Y variant exists in this family). For coastal Australian installs within 2 km of saltwater, either choose a NEMA 4X-rated camera (look for the "-Y" suffix on Hikvision turrets) or mount this PTZ under deep cover (eave, undercover carport, sheltered porch) so it doesn't see direct salt-spray exposure.
Does AcuSense work the same over Wi-Fi as Ethernet?
Yes — AcuSense classification happens on the camera itself, not on the network. The deep-learning model runs locally, decides whether the motion is human / vehicle / other, then sends only the qualified alerts and metadata over Wi-Fi (or Ethernet) to the NVR or Hik-Connect. Bandwidth use is the same; false-alarm filtering is identical.
Is this NDAA Section 889 compliant?
No. Hikvision is not NDAA Section 889 compliant. For NDAA-required projects (typically US federally-funded), we stock alternative brands — contact our team. For Australian residential, commercial, council, school, retail, hospitality, body-corporate and most state-government projects without an NDAA contractual requirement, this camera is freely usable.
