Cellular for serial devices
The RS232 interface connects legacy and modern serial equipment to 4G, enabling remote management of meters, controllers and instruments without rewiring the site.
Built for industrial protocols
Native Modbus TCP/RTU and DNP3 support, plus MQTT and SNMP, make the TRB142 a natural fit for SCADA, smart metering, energy and utilities deployments.
Secure RutOS platform
OpenWrt-based RutOS firmware with OpenVPN, IPsec, GRE, L2TP and ZeroTier, a hardened firewall, SSH access and full API/scripting for custom IoT integrations.
Manage your whole fleet
Teltonika RMS delivers zero-touch provisioning, monitoring and firmware updates across thousands of devices — even on private or dynamic-IP SIMs, with no site visits.
What is the TRB142 used for? It's an industrial LTE gateway with an RS232 serial port that adds 4G connectivity to legacy and modern serial equipment — ideal for remote management of meters, controllers, SCADA RTUs and industrial instruments.
What interface does the TRB142 have?A single RS232 (DB9) serial connector, plus a Micro-USB port and one digital input with a relay output for monitoring and control. It does not have an Ethernet port.
How fast is the cellular connection? The TRB142 uses 4G LTE Cat 1, suited to telemetry and serial data, with automatic 3G and 2G fallback where LTE coverage is thin.
Does the TRB142 support Modbus and DNP3?Yes. It natively supports Modbus TCP/RTU and DNP3, plus MQTT and SNMP, making it well suited to utilities, smart metering and process-automation deployments.
Does the TRB142 have Wi-Fi or Ethernet? No. The TRB142 is a serial (RS232) gateway with no Wi-Fi and no RJ45 Ethernet. For a Gigabit Ethernet gateway, choose the Teltonika TRB140 instead.
What SIM does it take? One Mini SIM (2FF) slot. It supports the primary 4G LTE bands used by Telstra, Optus and Vodafone in Australia, including Band 28 (700 MHz) for regional coverage.
Can I manage it remotely?Yes. The TRB142 is fully compatible with Teltonika RMS for secure remote configuration, diagnostics and bulk firmware updates across your entire fleet.
Does it support VPN?Yes. RutOS provides OpenVPN, IPsec, GRE, L2TP, PPTP and ZeroTier, enabling secure encrypted tunnels to connected serial equipment.
What warranty applies in Australia? The TRB142 carries a 2-year (24-month) warranty, backed by local Australian support.
