Description
TP-Link TL-WA3001 AX3000 Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Access Point
The TP-Link TL-WA3001 is a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) access point delivering combined speeds of up to 3000Mbps across 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Designed for homes, small businesses, and commercial deployments across Australia, it supports Passive PoE for single-cable installation, four operating modes for flexible network integration, and a built-in captive portal for guest Wi-Fi management — all in a compact, wall or ceiling-mountable form factor.
Key Features
-
AX3000 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 6 — Up to 574Mbps on 2.4GHz and 2402Mbps on 5GHz for fast, reliable connectivity across multiple devices simultaneously.
-
Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) Technology — OFDMA and MU-MIMO reduce congestion and improve efficiency in high-density environments with many connected devices.
-
Passive PoE Support — Powers and connects via a single Ethernet cable, enabling clean, flexible installation without a power outlet at the mounting point.
-
Four Operating Modes — Supports Access Point, Range Extender, Multi-SSID, and Client modes to suit a wide range of network configurations.
-
Beamforming Technology — Four fixed external antennas focus Wi-Fi signals towards connected devices for extended range and stronger signal strength.
-
Captive Portal — Create a branded guest Wi-Fi login page with custom terms, advertisements, or marketing messages — ideal for cafés, salons, and retail businesses.
-
Gigabit Ethernet Port — Full-speed wired backhaul ensures the access point doesn’t bottleneck your internet connection.
-
Multi-SSID Support — Broadcast multiple separate Wi-Fi networks from a single device for staff, guest, and IoT device segmentation.
Use Cases
- Small offices and meeting rooms requiring a dedicated Wi-Fi 6 access point separate from the main router
- Cafés, restaurants, and retail stores needing a branded captive portal for guest Wi-Fi
- Warehouses and large residential properties extending Wi-Fi coverage to dead zones via Range Extender mode
- Security and AV installers adding a Wi-Fi 6 AP to an existing wired network infrastructure
- Multi-tenant buildings or strata properties deploying segmented SSIDs for different users or floors

Recommended Accessories
-
TP-Link TL-POE260S 2.5G PoE+ Injector — Powers the TL-WA3001 via Passive PoE from a non-PoE switch or router using a single Ethernet cable.
-
TP-Link TL-SG108PE 8-Port PoE Switch — For multi-AP deployments, a PoE switch powers and connects multiple access points from a central location.
-
Cat6 Ethernet Cable — Recommended for reliable Gigabit backhaul and PoE power delivery to the access point.
-
TP-Link Omada Controller (OC200) — For centralised management of multiple TL-WA3001 units across a site, including roaming, VLAN, and captive portal configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the TL-WA3001 require a PoE switch to install?
No. The TL-WA3001 supports Passive PoE and also includes a DC power adapter, so it can be powered from a standard power outlet if a PoE switch or injector is not available. For the cleanest single-cable installation, a Passive PoE injector such as the TL-POE260S is recommended.
What is the difference between Access Point mode and Range Extender mode?
In Access Point mode, the TL-WA3001 connects to your router via Ethernet and broadcasts a new Wi-Fi network — this is the recommended mode for most installations. In Range Extender mode, it connects wirelessly to an existing Wi-Fi network and rebroadcasts it to extend coverage, though this typically reduces throughput by approximately half.
Can I manage multiple TL-WA3001 units centrally?
Yes. The TL-WA3001 is compatible with TP-Link’s Omada SDN platform. Using the Omada Controller (hardware or software), you can manage multiple APs centrally, configure seamless roaming, set up VLANs, and customise captive portal pages across an entire site.
What is the captive portal used for?
The captive portal displays a custom login or landing page when a guest connects to your Wi-Fi network. It’s commonly used by cafés, hotels, and retail stores to require customers to accept terms of use, view an advertisement, or enter a voucher code before gaining internet access.
Is the TL-WA3001 compatible with Wi-Fi 5 and older devices?
Yes. Wi-Fi 6 is backward compatible with Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n), and older standards. All existing devices will connect and benefit from the improved network efficiency of Wi-Fi 6, even if they don’t support the full AX3000 speeds.
Can I use this access point outdoors?
The TL-WA3001 is designed for indoor use. For outdoor Wi-Fi coverage, TP-Link’s Omada outdoor access point range (e.g. EAP225-Outdoor or EAP610-Outdoor) is recommended.
